    Security Officer Department: Venue Operations - Security Reporting Relationship: Manager - Venue Security Status: Full Time (Non -Exempt) The Venue Security Officer is responsible for supporting the overall safety and security of the facility, its employees, and guests. This role is responsible for ensuring a secure environment and reactive duties to address incidents. The Officer is responsible for protecting people, property, and assets while enforcing safety protocols. Primary Responsibilities Assist with the overall safety and security of the venue and its employees and guests. Admit and screen staff, suppliers, contractors, and visitors into the facility using daily logs and identification badge systems. Ensure all visitors and employees follow security policies and regulations including enforcing parking rules, visitor badge policies, and restricted area access. Screen individuals entering the facility using walkthrough metal detectors, handheld wands, and visual inspections, verifying credentials and ensuring compliance with venue security protocols. Perform thorough vehicle checks at designated entry points, verifying parking privileges and inspecting for prohibited items or suspicious activity. Utilize X-ray machines and other scanning technologies to inspect bags, packages, and personal belongings for unauthorized or dangerous items, ensuring safe entry into the venue. Monitor CCTV and other surveillance systems to ensure perimeter security. Provide a high level of security in accordance with NFL/MLS best practices and Standard Operating Procedures. Provide protective measures against fire, theft, accidents, trespassing, and property damage. Create accurate and detailed reports of any incidents, accidents, or unusual activities that occur during a shift. Provide breaks for other officers on duty as needed. Performing routine checks to identify potential hazards, such as faulty equipment, blocked fire exits, or slippery floors. Secure or unlock designated areas based on operational needs. Assist staff and guests during emergencies to ensure the orderly and safe movement of people. Monitor facility parking lots and perimeter for unauthorized access or suspicious activity. Alert management to any safety or security concerns in a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned to support venue operations and security. Minimum Qualifications Associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, or equivalent experience. Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or venue operations preferred. 2+ years of experience in physical security, facilities protection, or a related role. Ability to operate and monitor CCTV and other surveillance systems. Experience with access control systems and digital logging tools. Skills for Success Strong understanding of physical security principles and threat prevention. Clear and professional verbal communication with staff, visitors, and contractors. Vigilance in monitoring surroundings and identifying unusual activity. With the support of the Campus Police leadership, employees are empowered to provide essential and important public services for our student, staff, and visitors. This is a full-time, 12 month position. General Definition and Conditions of Work An employee in this class independently performs a full range of law enforcement duties in the areas of community policing, traffic, investigation, and patrol duties. Work includes preventing, detecting and investigating disturbances and crime, helping victims, and performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; testifying in court; and, executing related assignments. Employee must exercise judgment, initiative, and calm control when performing duties. Work is performed in accordance with campus policy and state and federal law, supplemented by specific directions from superior officers. Work is performed under stressful emergency conditions and frequently involves personal hazards. The employee is subject to hazards associated with law enforcement including working in both inside and outside environments, and exposure to various hazards such as various atmospheric conditions, noise, vibration, and physical conditions. Employee is subject to Level III OSHA Standards on blood borne pathogens, and may be required to work in close quarters. Work is performed under the general direct supervision of the Police Chief and Assistant Chief of Police , and is evaluated through observation, review of reports, and discussions concerning how particular incidents or activities were handled. Essential Functions & Typical Tasks: * Independently patrols streets throughout the campus in a police car or on foot. * Develops and maintains working rapport with students, faculty, staff, citizens, and community leaders. * Checks doors and windows; examines premises of unoccupied residences or buildings; detects unusual conditions, maintains surveillance and observation for stolen cars, missing persons, or suspects; and, reports dangerous or defective streets, sidewalks, traffic lights, or other hazardous conditions. * Responds independently to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, domestic disputes, loud and disruptive behavior, and other needs; determines nature of the situation and takes appropriate legal or persuasive action warranted. * Investigates traffic accidents; issues traffic citations; directs traffic; and participates in other emergency operation activities; may be required to give chase to speeding vehicles while ensuring public safety. * Performs investigations of accidents and possible crimes through observation, questioning witnesses and others in the community, and gathering physical evidence; and arrests and processes criminal suspects. * Apprehends and processes criminal suspects and transports to magistrates and detention facilities. * Advises the public on laws and local ordinances; and serves legal papers as needed. * Regulates and directs vehicular traffic at busy times or when traffic signal malfunction or accidents require; and maintains order at public gatherings. * Operates a two-way radio to receive instructions and information from or to report information to police headquarters; maintains vehicle, weapons, and other equipment in standard working order. * Prepares records and reports on activities. * Follows all applicable safety rules and regulations. * Assists stranded motorists; gives information and directions to visitors and the general public. * Performs related duties as required. When Assigned as a Police Detective: • Investigates crimes and related law enforcement problems; performs crime scene searches by photographing and/or diagramming scene and evidence, checking for latent fingerprints, and collecting any physical evidence present. • Identifies possible witnesses and suspects through observation at scene or reports of other officers or witnesses; conducts interviews to gather information regarding incidents and records statements made. • Maintains control over physical evidence gathered; records and stores evidence in department; processes evidence for identification information; transports evidence to state crime lab for further processing. • Determines probable cause to search, obtains search warrant from appropriate court, and personally conducts searches authorized; describes reason for arrest and obtains arrest warrant from appropriate court, and either personally makes arrest or turns warrant over to the uniform patrol division or other police agency for service. • Detains and arrests suspects; protects the rights of individuals in custody; processes arrested persons by obtaining identification and prior arrest record information, recording all property confiscated, and transporting suspects to jail. • Gathers all information related to a case; determines, either personally or with assistance of supervisor, when case is complete and submits information assembled to court system for prosecution; assists court system with any additional investigation required; appears as witness in local, state, and federal courts to provide testimony regarding cases investigated. • Prepares a variety of records and reports including supplemental reports of investigations, reports of background investigations, and statistical reports. • Completes and maintains a wide variety of departmental records and reports in compliance with departmental and legal policies and procedures. • Reviews incident reports and arrest records to determine patterns of criminal activity. • Maintains contacts with community members who may be able to provide information regarding possible criminal activities. • Communicates in person, by telephone, or by mail with other police and security agencies to gather information regarding cases. • Assists Juvenile Court in handling cases involving juveniles, neglected children, abandoned children, abused children, and domestic-related problems. • Presents programs on narcotics, drug abuse, and juvenile matters to civic organizations and educational establishments. • Works with community groups to encourage crime prevention techniques in residential and business areas; conducts on-site security checks for residential and commercial property when requested. Conducts stakeouts and undercover operations, as necessary. • Maintains assigned uniform, vehicle, and equipment in accordance with departmental policy and procedures. • Participates in departmental training programs. • Performs related work as required. • When assigned to the Criminal Investigative Division the officer will receive 5% assignment pay in lieu of standby when assigned to investigations. • Ensures information is shared to patrol officers in regard to known offenders or known criminal activity. When Assigned to School Resource Officer: Reports to SRO Supervisor When a Police Officer is assigned to the School Resource Officer position, they will assume the responsibility for acting as the law enforcement liaison between the Police Department and their assigned school. They are responsible to assist school administration in the development of a positive school climate and a safe school environment for both students and faculty. They serve as a visible and active law enforcement figure on campus and take enforcement action when necessary. They make presentations to classes, clubs, PTO, civic and/or community groups, to enhance positive public, student, and police relations. School Resource Officer: • Acts as a positive role model and develops good rapport with students, faculty, and parents, promoting respect for the legal system and law enforcement officers. • Makes presentations to classes concerning law enforcement's role in society. • Acts as a resource with respect to delinquency prevention, citizenship, and other law enforcement related topics. • Develops plans and strategies for providing a safe environment for the students and school staff. • Provides for conferences and/or counseling with students, parents, and staff members, when necessary on an individual basis. • Remains updated on juvenile court codes and legal issues. • Responds in a timely manner to special orders and/or assignments from the School Resource Officer supervisor and ensures that such assignments are implemented in an efficient and quality manner. • Monitors and patrols the school campus, and acts as an extension of the principal's office in supporting and reporting violations of the school's policies. Works individually, and with school personnel, in the detection and elimination of harmful conditions, traffic hazards, or trouble areas that might endanger the safety and welfare of students and staff. • Takes the law enforcement action necessary to protect against unwanted intruders at the school or at school related functions. • Investigates crimes and any other illegal or unauthorized activity which may occur on school grounds or during school sponsored events. • Acts as the law enforcement liaison between the school and Juvenile Court Solicitors. • Maintains close communication with administrators, appropriate school personnel, and counselors about cases involving juvenile offenders. • Assumes related responsibilities as jointly established by the Board of Education and the Police Department in the Memorandum of Understanding. • Develops programs that are geared toward improving relationships between the police department, students, faculty, and parents. • The School Resource Officer (SRO) may be temporarily reassigned during school holidays, vacations or during periods of police emergencies. • Performs related work as required. Qualifications Desirable Qualifications for SRO: • Have at least at least two years' experience as a sworn law enforcement officer. • Have earned at least an Associate (two-year) degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. • Have demonstrated effective communication/teaching skills. • Have demonstrated a commitment to youth related actives. • Have demonstrated an attention to neatness in their personal appearance. • Have demonstrated effective writing and organization skills. • Have demonstrated a desire to participate in the SRO Program and understands the importance of being a positive role model to students and the youth of the community. • No tobacco use of any kind. • Have demonstrated familiarization of the budget process and adhere to budget policies that would normally apply to sworn members of the department. • Have been certified as a School Resource Officer or has the ability to be certified within one year of appointment. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. * Operates a patrol vehicle; observes people for violations of laws, suspicious activities, or disturbances of law and order, and responds with appropriate enforcement action. * Assists in processing crime scenes, investigates, and follows up on crimes committed. * Conducts field testing of controlled substances. * Performs duties as a field training officer by training, evaluating, and supervising new recruits for extended periods of time; prepares field training documentation. * Monitors and operates the radio; dispatches officers; monitors public service and 911 as needed. * Effects an arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints; subdues resisting suspects using maneuvers and other approved weapons in self-defense as necessary. * Prepares investigative and other reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols, and mathematical computations. * Exercises independent judgement in determining when there is reasonable suspicion to detain, when probable cause exists to search and arrest, and when force may be used and to what degree. * Operates a law enforcement vehicle both day and night, potentially in emergency situations involving speeds in excess of posted limits, in congested traffic, and unsafe road conditions. * Gathers information in criminal and administrative investigation by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers. * Pursues fleeing suspects and performs rescue. * Loads, unloads, aims, and fires handguns, shotguns, and other agency firearms from a variety of positions, under conditions of stress that justify the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in certification standards. * Detects, collects, preserves, and stores evidence and substances that provide the basis of criminal offenses and infractions and that indicate the presence of dangerous conditions. * Personnel may be assigned to various positions such as: K-9, Traffic, SRO, Crime Reduction Team, Housing, Crime Prevention, Community Policing, or any other specialized position. * Performs other duties as assigned. NOTE: The successful applicant must be able to perform ALL the above functions, unassisted, and at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements. This requires a high level of physical ability to include vision, hearing, speaking, flexibility, and strength. Education and Experience * High School Diploma or GED. * Possess a Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification.
