Summary
Provides protection to Reynolda House Museum of American Art as well as guests and staff from criminal activity, fire, safety hazards or other dangerous situations. Monitors activities within the museum, conducts roving patrols, and responds to incidents as directed. Responsibilities involve dynamic interpersonal interaction with Reynolda House visitors, staff, and vendors during normal museum hours as well as special functions and after-hours and weekend events. Demonstrates approachability and confidence and makes all feel welcome as a reflection of the Reynolda brand.
Essential Functions:
Maintains knowledge of current policies and procedures to protect the collection, staff, and visitors to Reynolda.
Actively monitors all building areas to ensure the safety / security of the collection, staff, and guests. Will take action based on observations as required.
Detects problems and reports information to appropriate personnel via the chain of command.
Protects the collection from unauthorized tampering, handling, defacing, touching or theft.
Responds to fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and panic alarms.
Responds to medical emergencies; administers aid as required.
Receives reports of and responds to, security issues, safety issues, and incidents. Investigates and completes detailed incident reports on various situations as they arise. Makes prompt notifications on various situations as required.
Responds appropriately to guest conflicts as the first level of conflict management.
Regulates and controls traffic through gallery spaces during regular museum operations and special events.
Assists in the evacuation of the museum in the event of an emergency that threatens life or property in accordance with current emergency procedures; ensures security of the area.
Other Functions:
Conducts opening and closing building inspections.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
High School graduate or G.E.D. with two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to successfully complete security training, first aid/CPR training, and other training as assigned by the Director of Security.
Ability to use a computer for multiple functions to include but not limited to; report writing, email communication, timekeeping and scheduling.
Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. (Weekend availability is required for this position)
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare accurate / detailed reports.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or other emergency services is preferred.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class performs a variety of law enforcement duties on an assigned shift. Work is derived from the requirement to protect life and property, to conduct initial investigations in an assigned zone of the county, to patrol in an official vehicle to deter crimes, and to apprehend violators or suspects. Duties may include: serving criminal court papers such as warrants and subpoenas; receiving and serving civil process papers such as civil and magistrate summons, subpoenas, notice of rights, and court orders. The employee is subject to the usual hazards of law enforcement. Considerable tact, firmness and courtesy are required in serving the public. Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent and demonstrated work experience to perform job duties, such as experience in local or federal law enforcement, military police, or other law enforcement settings; OR graduation from an associate degree program with emphasis in criminal justice or related field; OR graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Preferred: Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET).

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
An employee in this position must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. The employment procedure for the Police Trainee position is a multi-step process. An applicant must pass each step in sequential order to progress to the next step. An applicant who misses a scheduled appointment (unless a verified emergency) may be voluntarily withdrawn from any further consideration. Recruit training is an intense 25-week program that demands high academic performance in areas such as law, human relations, first aid, firearms, driver training, defensive tactics, and modern law enforcement techniques. The academy also includes daily rigorous physical activity, weight training, aerobic activities, periodic assessments on the physical abilities course, etc. Police Trainees must successfully complete all topical areas and the State Comprehensive Examination. New officers then receive an additional 12 weeks of field training followed by assignment to one of four districts of the Patrol Bureau. The Local Codes Lead Enforcement Officer provides guidance in the field over a team of 5 local codes inspectors who are responsible for enforcing the City's minimum housing code, Development Ordinance, public nuisance ordinance and junked and abandoned vehicle ordinance. Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with formal education to include basic arithmetic and/or business math.
* Valid North Carolina driver's license or valid license from another state, with the ability to obtain a North Carolina license.

UNC Police is seeking to hire qualified individuals as sworn Reserve Police Officers to serve in a part-time capacity. The Reserve Police Officer positions will be required to work a minimum of three (3) home football games, four (4) home basketball games, and two (2) additional events such as plays, concerts, lectures, and celebrations. The Reserve Officers do not work on patrol squads and do not assist with patrol shift coverage. The Reserve Police Officers are uniformed police positions and must adhere to the Department's General Orders (G.O.). All uniforms, duty belts, and appropriate departmentally issued duty gear are provided; the applicant must provide their own shoes in accordance with G.O. These are at-will, intermittent temporary positions.
