The December 27, 2025 starting hourly rate for Deputy Sheriff is $36.60.
Waukesha County is accepting applications for Law Enforcement Academy Sponsorship. This recruitment is for non-certified/non-academy applicants. Candidates who are hired from this recruitment will be sent to an 18-week Law Enforcement Academy from July 29, 2026 to December 4, 2026. Salary and costs are covered by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office. Upon successful completion of the Law Enforcement Academy, candidates must then successfully complete the Department's Field Training program.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. United States citizen.
3. At least 18 years of age.
4. Sixty (60) credits of post high school education (associate degree level or higher) from an accredited university, college or technical school, preferably in criminal justice, police science, business or public administration, or the social sciences must be attained by May 25, 2026. NOTE: In accordance with the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board, a maximum of 60 credits may be waived by the Board for officers who qualify for a waiver. 5. Ability to possess a firearm.

Supplemental Information
As part of the hiring process, a select number of candidates will be invited to complete a department-administered Physical Ability Test (PAT)* which, in addition to the physical components of the test, may include pushups, sit-ups and a vertical jump. The PAT is separate from the Academy's Physical Readiness Test (PRT).
*Individuals who secure employment as a Waukesha County Deputy Sheriff are required to pass the department-issued PAT annually.

* Possess a current valid driver's license. Must be REAL ID compliant.

* Obtain a Top-Secret Clearance and retain it during your career.
* This position requires an automatic credit check after initial qualifications are met.

* Candidates are required to complete intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA, followed by specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD. Failure to pass the training program may result in separation from the Secret Service.
* Sign a mobility agreement stating your willingness to accept assignments anywhere within the United States and overseas.
* Certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so, if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959.
* Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular, possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.(Note: Lasik, ALK, RK, and PRK corrective eye surgeries are acceptable eye surgeries for special agent applicants. Applicants will be considered eligible for the special agent position provided specific visual tests are passed. The following are waiting periods for visual tests: Lasik-2 months after surgery, PRK-6 months after surgery, ALK and RK-one year after surgery).
* Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500,1000 and 2000Hz ranges.
Qualifications
As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 2-year trial period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. * Maintained a grade-point average of "B" (a GPA of 3.0 or higher) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study; OR
* Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision; OR
* Be a member of a national honor (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Please submit a college transcript(s) showing your grade point average for all four years of undergraduate study, including all transferred courses.
* NOTE: GPAs are rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9. If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail or similar basis, your claim must be based on class standing or membership in an honor society.
* At least one full year of graduate level education (i.e., 18 semester hours); OR
* At least 1 year of specialized experience in, or related to, the investigative methods, protective methods, and law enforcement techniques that provide the specific competencies to successfully perform the position's duties. As part of the application process the applicant will be required to complete the United States Secret Service Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT). It is a physical fitness assessment which consists of four components (push-ups, sit-ups, Illinois Agility Run and a 1.5 Mile Run). The APAT is designed to measure the current level of general physical fitness of an applicant, which serves as an indicator of an applicant's ability to safely complete a vigorous physical training program. It evaluates the applicant's ability to perform the physical tasks required on the job by measuring muscular and dynamic strength, endurance, flexibility, aerobic capacity and other factors related to physical aptitude. General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.
Additional information
* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. A second installment of $10,000 will be paid following one year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $15,000 will be paid after a third year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a three-year Continued Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive. (NOTE: Eligibility is limited to "Newly appointed" Federal employees as defined by 5 CFR 575.102).
Applicants selected for this position will be required to sign a CSA before being assigned to an initial training class. The CSA will commit the applicant to a specified period of employment with the Secret Service upon the successful completion of training.
Applicants will be required to travel to all phases of the hiring process at their own expense. If a final job offer is extended, relocation expenses will not be authorized for first duty location.
The Secret Service prohibits employees from having visible body markings (including but not limited to tattoos, body art and branding) on the head, face, neck, hand and fingers (any area below the wrist bone) (exception a single conservative and unobtrusive tattoo in the form of a ring is authorized on one finger).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS
Education and Experience
High school graduation or its equivalency and two years of full-time attendance at college or two years of full-time work experience (military service will be considered as work experience). Must be a minimum of 21 years of age at time of appointment.
Note: Must meet State Law Enforcement Standards Board education requirements within 5 years of date of hire (explained in the following Post Employment Education Standard section).
Special Requirements
United States Citizen; Valid Wisconsin driver's license (or eligibility for such license) with good driving record; no criminal convictions; availability for night and weekend assignments and 24 hour on call status.
Physical Requirements

Post-Employment Education Standard
If not achieved prior to employment, all Deputy Sheriffs must attain within five years of their employment either of the following:

2. Sixty fully accredited college level credits (the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board may waive up to thirty credits for equivalent experience, training or other qualifications).
Successful completion of the academy may result in up to 16 credits toward this requirement.
Failure to meet the above requirement will result in termination of employment. This is a requirement of the State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board for re-certification of law enforcement officers.
Pre-Employment Standard
In order to gain entrance into the 720-hour Basic Law Enforcement Academy, you will need to successfully complete the state-required physical readiness test, passing the following entrance standards:
* 1.5 mile run in 20:20 or less
* 300 meter run in 82 seconds or less
* 18 push-ups
* 24 sit-ups
* Vertical jump of 11.5 inches minimum
* Agility run in 23.4 seconds or less
Once you successfully complete the test, the results are valid for 180 days.
During academy you will continue to work on physical training and you will be required to complete the test again and pass at the exit standards in order to graduate. The exit standards are:
* 1.5 mile run in 16:57 or less
* 300 meter run in 68 seconds or less
* 23 push-ups
* 30 sit-ups
* Vertical jump of 14 inches minimum
* Agility run in 19.5 seconds or less
Candidates to be placed on an eligible list for possible hiring consideration must satisfy each of the following successive steps:
1. Completely and accurately complete application procedure and satisfy minimum examination entrance requirements as specified in the Deputy Sheriff recruitment announcement.
2. Advancement to the Written Exam. Candidates will be considered for admission to written examination by the admissions committee based on candidate qualifications as demonstrated by their application information, and records checks (e.g., motor vehicle traffic violation record and criminal conviction record).
3. Completion of a written examination. This exam will be administered by Dane County Employee Relations Department and will be held on a Saturday in Madison. Exam notices specifying the date, time, and location for the exam will be emailed by the Dane County Employee Relations Department to candidates who successfully complete Steps 1 and 2 above (candidates who have taken this same exam within six months will have their exam score reused).
4. Candidates scoring above the established cutoff on the written exam may be considered for admission to oral examination/interview dependent on the hiring needs of the Sheriff's Office.
5. Candidates admitted by Step 4 above will complete an oral examination/interview. Candidates scoring above the established cutoff will be placed on an eligible list in rank order of their combined exam scores (candidate's score and rank will be emailed to them by Employee Relations).

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Police methods and procedures including patrol, crime prevention, traffic control, investigation and identification techniques.
Criminal law and criminal procedures with particular reference to the apprehension, arrest and custody of persons committing misdemeanors and felonies, including rules of evidence pertaining to the seizure and preservation of evidence.
Offensive and defensive weapons nomenclature and theory.
First aid principles, practices and techniques.
Self defense tactics.
Interviewing and interrogation techniques.
Public relations techniques.
Report writing techniques and procedures.
Ability to:
Operation of standard equipment and facilities required in the performance of assigned tasks.
Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places.
Use and properly care for firearms.
Understand, interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Prepare clear, accurate and grammatically correct written reports.
Analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine and take emergency action.
Identify potential crime situations or traffic hazards and take preventive action.
Meet the first aid requirement as prescribed by the State of Illinois and to administer first aid.
Meet the physical requirements established by the Department.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of:

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience - Two years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience.
Training - High School Diploma or GED.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Possession of a Law Enforcement Officer Certificate issued by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Board.

Position Summary
The Park Police Officer is responsible for enforcing park ordinances and regulations, safeguarding park property and resources, and promoting safety throughout the Crystal Lake Park District. This position involves public interaction, emergency response, and proactive patrolling of park facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Enforce Park District ordinances, rules, and regulations
Provide support and information to park users
Perform routine park patrols and respond to incidents
Assist with wildlife, safety hazards, lockouts, and minor obstructions
Conduct security checks of buildings, restrooms, and rentals
Respond to first aid emergencies and provide CPR/AED/first aid as needed
Maintain accurate logs and reports
Care for assigned vehicle and equipment
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in criminal justice, parks and recreation, or related field (preferred)
Certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board
Minimum 2 years of experience in law enforcement, recreation, or natural resource management
Strong knowledge of Illinois laws, local ordinances, and police procedures
Valid drivers license and ability to pass a defensive driving course
CPR/AED and First Aid certified
U.S. citizen, 21+ years of age, with corrected vision to 20/20
Able to pass psychological and background checks
Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
Committed to public safety and natural resource preservation
Working Conditions
