POSITION SUMMARY
The Part-time, unarmed Campus Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors on the Marion campus. This role focuses on proactive security measures, visibility, and providing assistance while adhering to all college policies and procedures. The security officer is expected to observe, report, and respond to various situations in a non-confrontational manner, and to summon law enforcement when necessary. Perform other Safety and Security functions and assignments that enable the department to achieve its goals and advance the mission of the Marion Campus.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrol and Surveillance: Conduct regular patrols of the campus grounds, parking lots, and buildings on foot or in a patrol vehicle to deter criminal activity, detect safety hazards, and ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates.
Access Control: Monitor and control access to college buildings and facilities during and after business hours, including admitting authorized personnel and visitors.
Emergency Response: Respond to alarms, disturbances, and emergency situations, including medical emergencies, by following established protocols. This includes administering basic first aid/CPR, if certified, and contacting appropriate emergency services (e.g., police, fire department, EMS).
Incident Reporting: Observe and document all incidents, accidents, suspicious activities, and violations of college policy. Prepare detailed and accurate reports in a timely manner.
Public Assistance: Provide assistance to the college community, including giving directions, providing escorts, and offering lockout services. Maintain a visible and approachable presence to answer questions and address concerns.
Traffic and Parking Enforcement: Direct traffic and enforce parking regulations as needed, particularly during special events.
Safety Checks: Identify and report potential safety and maintenance issues, such as faulty equipment, leaks, or obstructions.
Collaboration: Work cooperatively with local law enforcement and emergency services when required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
1 year of security, law enforcement, or a related field experience required.
Must be at least 18 years of age
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Ability to pass a thorough background check and drug screening.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or emergency situations.
Basic computer skills for report writing and communication.
Physical ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, and to lift up to 50 pounds.

About the Position:
As a Security Officer, you will ensure a positive customer experience by ensuring a safe and secure environment for all. You are responsible for addressing disruptive or offensive behavior, unsafe conditions, and minimizing theft of library property.
Position Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 4:00pm-8:00pm
Friday/Saturday rotation 9:00am-6:00pm
Sunday (as scheduled)

What You'll Do:
Patrols buildings and grounds at regular intervals and appropriately handles observed irregularities or problems. Prevents theft of Library property and follows all issued post orders.
Uses non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to diplomatically confront people engaged in disruptive, offensive or inappropriate behavior; suspends from property as necessary.
Ensures a positive customer experience by greeting customers, answering directional questions and participating in organization-wide initiatives/special events.
Responds to, investigates, and reports any safety hazard, security incident, parking enforcement or emergency, including reviewing CCTV footage as needed.
Ensures that the building is secure at closing and that all staff and customers depart safely. Completes issued closing checklist daily.
Maintains a professional appearance by keeping uniform in good condition and promptly reporting uniform needs to Security management.
Carries all necessary equipment in working order while on duty and promptly reports equipment needs to Security management.
Collaborates with law enforcement on public safety issues. Files police reports and appears in court as needed.
Assists in emergency response drills and other training throughout the year.
Assists with testing and validation of security equipment (lockdown buttons, alarm panels, panic buttons, security cameras, etc.) as needed.
Assists physically challenged customers entering or leaving library facilities, including as part of emergency evacuations.
Renders first aid in medical emergencies. Contacts trained medical professionals as appropriate.
Documents incidents in the reporting software according to guidelines.
Brings serious issues or those with significant risk to Security and location management for awareness and resolution.
Serves as on-call Officer or fills in as Dispatcher as needed.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
1-3 years of relevant customer service or security experience or training required.
Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, per job requirements. Valid driver license may be required based on branch location which meets the minimum requirements of CML's vehicle insurance policy and access to a personal vehicle to promptly report to varied work locations as assigned.
Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to carry and use Oleoresin Capsicum (OC or pepper spray) upon receiving necessary training and in appropriate situations.
Upon receiving necessary training, ability to respond quickly, effectively, and appropriately when it is clear that the physical safety of staff and/or customers is endangered.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings, willing to carry a cellular telephone as directed by management for response to library emergencies and service requests. Work schedule includes rotational on-call duties.
Must have the ability to actively patrol (on foot) and use stairs throughout the duration of their shift and to quickly respond to incidents.
Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e., Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions).
Work requires occasional exerting of up to 50 lbs. of force and the frequent exerting of up to 20 lbs. of force. In emergency situations, work may also require sprinting short distances, quickly ascending and descending stairs, performing CPR and exerting in excess of 50 lbs. of force.

Summary:
Provides for the safety and security of all residents and employees and property of The Ohio Masonic Communities.
Performs foot and mobile patrols of all OMC buildings and grounds and takes such actions, responding swiftly, as are necessary to ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents, employees and visitors and to prevent loss or injury.

Summary Description: Ohio Christian University is seeking a full-time Campus Safety Officer to provide for the security of academic, residential and administrative buildings. Tasks and Responsibilities: Performs security duties while patrolling or monitoring surveillance systems and the physical safety of campus buildings by locking and unlocking doors. Checks for unauthorized persons, safety hazards, and general security violations, enforcing traffic, parking regulations, and issuing tickets. Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty as necessary, perform jump-starts, and other public assistant requests. Reports all problems or emergencies to immediate supervisor and documents incidents with a written report. Maintains a daily shift log and documents all activities during his or her shift. Act as a first responder in emergencies and serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
Qualifications: High School diploma / Associates degree / Previous security / Law Enforcement / Military experience. Current OPTA 20hr Private Security Firearms Certificate or the ability to obtain within 6 months of initial hire date. Be proactive, have excellent customer service skills, and a strong human relations skills with the ability to interact positively with a diverse university population, and team oriented.
Skills Necessary: Able to lift 50lbs; walk foot patrol routes; able to use Microsoft Word and Excel for reports: operate phones and radios; operate a motor vehicle.
