The Lubbock Police Department is currently accepting applications for Police Officer Reappointment through the Lateral Entry Police Program. This program is designed to recruit experienced law enforcement officers by recognizing their prior service and reducing required training time. Eligible candidates will be placed on the pay scale according to their years of previous law enforcement experience.
Protect life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Answer calls and complaints involving accidents, robberies, burglaries, fires, misdemeanors, and felonies. Render first aid at crime scenes; assist or conduct preliminary investigations; apprehend suspects; gather evidence; obtain witness names; obtain statements; make arrests; and transport suspects. Investigate automobile accidents and check stolen automobile reports;
Prevent crime;
Perform work in accordance with department rules and regulations;
Perform routine patrol, traffic regulation, and preliminary investigations;
Perform duties in patrol cruisers, motorcycles, or on foot;
Perform duties which may involve danger, and which require officer to act without supervision in the exercise of independent judgment in meeting emergencies;
Keep records and prepare activity reports;
Testify in court as needed;
Perform related duties as required.
To be eligible for the Lateral Entry Program with the Lubbock Police Department, applicants must have a minimum of two (2) years of continuous, full-time service as a paid, licensed or certified peace officer in a law enforcement agency, including out-of-state agencies as approved by the Chief of Police. Candidates must have held a position with the authority to enforce laws, investigate crimes, make arrests, respond to calls for service, carry a firearm, and exercise discretion in the performance of their duties. Additionally, applicants must not have a break in service exceeding three (3) years from the time they left their previous law enforcement agency to the time of application with LPD.
Lateral entry applicants must also successfully complete each step in the Civil Service hiring process in the same manner as any other applicant.

General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. A second installment of $10,000 will be paid following one year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $15,000 will be paid after a third year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a three-year Continued Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive. (NOTE: Eligibility is limited to "Newly appointed" Federal employees as defined by 5 CFR 575.102).

What You'll Do:
Control access to the location by verifying credentials and monitoring entry and exit points to help to deter unauthorized access.
Monitor security-related systems such as cameras and alarms to identify and report unusual activity.
Provide customer service by assisting employees, visitors, and contractors with access procedures and answering questions related to site-specific policies.
Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, following established protocols.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty.
