As a Deportation Officer (Reemployed Annuitant), you will perform the following duties:
* Performing law enforcement duties to investigate, identify, locate, arrest, detain, prosecute, and remove foreign nationals who pose a threat to national security and public safety; conducting complex investigations, executing arrests, preparing cases for prosecution, and managing the detention and removal of non-citizens in the U.S. by working with foreign, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
* Identifying violators of immigration laws through the use of complex investigative methods and techniques as well as determining citizenship, to include gathering facts and evidence pertaining to non-citizens that pose a threat to national security and/or public safety.
* Conducting custody determinations regarding the detention of non-citizens in accordance with constitutional law, federal statutes, regulations and policies; coordinating and negotiating with domestic and foreign law enforcement agencies to manage the detention and removal of non-citizens in the U.S.; and sharing compiled actionable intelligence information with law enforcement intelligence communities.
* Interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects to gather critical information and evidence; obtaining and serving criminal and civil warrants of arrest; serving as agency lead on interagency, federal, state, and local law enforcement task forces to address threats to national security or public safety, as well as processing, detaining, and transporting non-citizens throughout the legal process.

* Identify and Locate: Identifying and locating non-citizens who pose a threat to national security and public safety, using actionable intelligence developed through human sources such as detainee population, general public, open sources, and law enforcement contacts; Using a broad range of technologies including biometric software and high speed surveillance systems.
* Arrest: Interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects, obtaining and serving criminal and civil warrants of arrest for those individuals located in the U.S. which may include use of various levels of force (e.g., deadly force), and initiating deportation and/or criminal proceedings regardless of whether or not the individual is in the custody of another LEA.
* Custody: Conducting legal research to support custody decisions regarding the detention of non-citizens in federal court actions, to include writs of habeas corpus and mandamus petitions and assisting ICE trial attorneys and U.S. attorneys in representing the government in court actions; making recommendations for custody determinations regarding the detention of non-citizens.
* Prosecute: Reviewing cases for legal sufficiency and making recommendations regarding whether they meet the elements of a federal crime and/or administrative violations and the prosecutorial guidelines of the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO); maintaining security of restricted and classified materials; preparing criminal complaints through affidavits, development of facts, and gathering of evidence to support prosecution.
* Deportation: Reviewing cases for legal sufficiency to identify and process for removal, violators of federal immigration laws who meet agency prosecutorial guidelines; presenting cases for civil deportation proceedings including those to federal attorneys; recommending custody conditions and preparing formal detailed documentation for the purpose of adjudication and responding to applications for immigration benefits or relief, including bonds, parole, voluntary departure, stays of removal, and deferred action.
* Partnering: Adhering to any mandatory legal, regulatory or policy requirements under international treaties and agreements regarding consular notification and access; collecting, evaluating and reporting information based on national intelligence collection requirements to include those related to national security, such as terrorism and proliferation of weapons and technology, the president's strategy to combat transnational organized crime, and illegal trafficking of weapons, persons, drugs, and money.

Deportation Officer Transition Program (DOTP). Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime (AUO): This position may require substantial amounts of irregular or occasional overtime. Patrol HCMA property while operating a patrol vehicle, golf cart, motor scooter, bicycle, pick-up truck, watercraft or on foot in a variety of environmental conditions and over variable terrain.
Investigate complaints regarding suspicion of criminal activity gathering information by interviewing and obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, and suspects and confidential informants.
Conduct searches during daylight or darkness of buildings, open or heavily wooded outdoor areas with even or uneven terrain, beaches, marshes, marinas, and golf courses.
Apprehend persons suspected of violating laws and ordinances, affecting arrests, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints. May involve climbing over obstacles, jumping down from elevated surfaces, jumping over obstacles, ditches and streams or crawling in confined areas.
Render assistance at fire or accident scenes such as lifting, carrying, or dragging people or heavy objects for distances of up to 150 yards.
Prepare investigative and other reports including sketches using appropriate grammar, symbols, and mathematical computations.
Advise the public on laws, ordinances, rules and regulations, about use of park facilities and provide park visitors with information pertaining to park use and points of interest maintaining a positive public relations atmosphere.
Controls animal population to obtain balance of wildlife and habitat using control measures in accordance with the HCMA wildlife management plan.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Perform maintenance duties including but not limited to routine patrol vehicle maintenance; snow removal; the grooming of bike, ski or nature trails; and other grounds or maintenance duties as skills allow.
Perform operational duties including but not limited to mail deliveries; motor vehicle permit sales; bank transports or escorts; toll gate relief; radio inventory; fire extinguisher inventory; first aid supply inventory; and safety inspections of playground equipment, hike/bike trails, picnic areas.
Perform public relations and school presentations. When requested by other departments, may assist with photography, naturalist functions, nature center programs and special events.
Perform administrative assignments including but not limited to pre-employment background investigations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MCOLES Certified Officer or certifiable Police Academy graduate in the State of Michigan.
Associate degree or minimum 60 credit hours earned at an accredited school preferably in criminal justice, park administration, sociology, natural resources, or related field. (EQUIVALENCE: Two years related experience may be substituted for each year of college.)
Possess a valid State of Michigan motor vehicle license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Unsullied personal life free from crimes of moral turpitude as determined by a criminal history and background investigation.
Ability to perform all of the essential job functions and typical physical demands unassisted and without delay.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATION OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ferndale Police Auxiliary Officer

These volunteer officers relieve regular line officers from performing auxiliary tasks and other functions that deplete the number of regular officers on the street.
The Auxiliary unit is used in a variety of functions ranging from crowd and traffic control to assisting regular officers search a crime scene for evidence. The unit is used also for disasters (i.e., to secure areas and direct traffic because of downed power lines, flood areas and many other disaster situations).
Training:
Ferndale Police Auxiliary members receive a great deal of training, both ongoing as well as formal training. Ongoing training is done locally at the department or around the station (if the auxiliary is practicing traffic direction). The Auxiliary Coordinator directs all training.
Formal training is conducted at Oakland Community College, Oakland Police Academy. The Auxiliary receives 120 hours of classroom and range time, covering 14 topics in the classroom. Topics include:

first aid
narcotics and dangerous drugs

The unit also receives OC (pepper spray) training through the department and CPR/First-Aid Certification annually.
Uniforms:
In Ferndale, the department has always provided our auxiliary members with shirts, pants, hats, badges, coats, bullet resistant vests and name badges.
Auxiliary members are also required to purchase a department-approved firearm, all leather gear (belts, holsters, belt keepers and cuff case). Other equipment includes flashlights, whistles, rain hat covers, radio holsters, pepper spray case and other incidentals. This equipment cost can exceed $1,500.
The Auxiliary unit is a group of dedicated volunteers striving for the betterment and safety of the City of Ferndale and its residents.
DUTIES
Some functions performed by the auxiliary unit include:
State Fair pedestrian crosswalk
Memorial Day Parade directing traffic and security at the parade
Dream Cruise traffic and crowd control
House Check Program (when residents are going to be away on vacation or any other situations they can notify the Ferndale Police Department and have their homes checked by uniformed Auxiliary officers)
Surveillance projects (capacity of observation and reporting via radio)
Evidence searches at crime scenes (assisting the Detective Bureau)
Devil's Night patrol
Halloween patrol
Downtown details: Christman tree lighting ceremony
Art Fair
Pride Fest
Attend funerals and/used as honor guards
State and National Police Memorial representation in Washington, D.C.

QUALIFICATIONS
