Summary/Objective:
The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all guests, personnel, and property within the facility. This includes monitoring security cameras, access control systems, intrusion systems, radio communications, and fire life safety systems. The role requires accurate and timely updating of security documentation, including incident reports, injury reports, daily activity reports, and event reports. Essential Functions of the Job:

Conduct security patrols with mobile devices to ensure the safety of staff, visitors, and building assets.
Multitask effectively under pressure to ensure the safety of employees and guests during emergency evacuations. Support and assist with building evacuations.
Conduct Executive Protection support for Academy events at internal and external locations.
Lead event teams conducting security screening operations at Academy Campus and external locations.
Support and manage mobile/hand-held devices for large-scale special events as needed.
Conduct special assignments related to awards season events.
Monitor activities and immediately report any observed discrepancies.
Communicate with local law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services as required by the situation.

Required Competencies:

Major Duties

AGE
Must be at least 20½ years of age at time of application and 21 years of age by the LASD Reserve Deputy Sheriff academy graduation.
CITIZENSHIP
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Applicants will be required to submit their documents during the background process.
EDUCATION
Graduation from a U.S. high school or evidence of equivalent U.S. high school proficiency or higher education. Evidence of equivalent high school proficiency includes having successfully passed the GED, TASC, HiSET, or CHSPE.

EXAMINATION CONTENT

REAPPLY PROCEDURE
Applicants who have participated in the examination process for any one of the Law Enforcement Job Family (LEJF) positions and who do not achieve a qualifying score, must wait three (3) months after the date of the failed test to reapply for any of the LEJF examinations. VALIDATED PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST
Candidates who pass the multiple choice test will proceed to the VPAT.
The VPAT evaluates candidates' baseline physical fitness level, relative to the physical demands of the Sheriff's Academy and is comprised of four tests: push-ups, 75-yard run, sit-ups, and 20 meter shuttle run test. Candidates must pass the VPAT to start the background investigation.
Candidates will have three (3) opportunities to pass the VPAT within a six (6) month period from the date of the candidate's initial scheduled VPAT appointment.
Candidates who do not pass the VPAT within the six (6) months must wait three (3) months from the date of the last VPAT failure to reapply for this position.
Candidates are strongly encouraged to work out and be in good physical condition. Candidates who pass the VPAT should continue to work out to meet the physical demands of the academy. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department offers Pre-Academy Workouts for candidates in the hiring process.
STRUCTURED INTERVIEW (SI)
Candidates who pass the VPAT will participate in a P.O.S.T. mandated structured interview (SI). The SI evaluates the candidates' experience, problem solving, interest/motivation, interpersonal skills, community involvement/awareness, and communication skills. If a candidate does not pass the SI, they must wait three (3) months to reapply.
PRE-INVESTIGATIVE QUESTIONNAIRE
Candidates will be required to complete a Pre-Investigative Questionnaire that will consist of questions regarding narcotics use, theft, arrest history, domestic violence, and driving history. Examples of disqualifying factors include but are not limited to: failure to appear to scheduled appointments, felony convictions, job related misdemeanor convictions, certain serious traffic convictions or patterns, suspended license, driving under the influence, poor credit or employment history, substance abuse, and active criminal probation.
PERSONAL HISTORY STATEMENT (PHS)
Candidates will be required to complete a P.O.S.T. mandated Personal History Statement (PHS). BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

ACADEMY TRAINING
The Sheriff's Academy is a training program and is approved by the California Department of Corrections and the California Commission on P.O.S.T. Classes are conducted two evenings a week and some weekends and holidays. The Academy days may be conducted in shifts. Recruits generally spend additional time outside of class preparing for class and studying for exams. Recruits in the Sheriff's Academy will participate in classroom and scenario-based training, which will include: the interpretation and application of laws, report writing, radio operations, first aid and CPR, defensive tactics, handcuffing and searching techniques, use of the baton, the safe handling, care, and use of firearms, emergency vehicle operations, and Department regulations and laws regarding the use of force and firearms. To perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; enforce State and local traffic regulations; perform investigative work; and participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs. Starting pay for Academy Trained entry is at "A" step of the pay range.
Education Incentive Pay: An additional 7% of base pay for an Associate's degree or equivalent units (60) OR Intermediate California (CA) P.O.S.T. Certificate. An additional 10.5% for a Bachelor's degree or equivalent units (124) OR Advanced CA P.O.S.T. Certificate.
The following examples are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by persons assigned to this classification.
* Patrols assigned area in patrol car to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crimes, and to enforce traffic regulations; responds to calls and complaints involving traffic accidents, robberies, disturbances, and other misdemeanors and felonies, and take necessary police action; make arrests; take charge of, and guide and direct the work of other law enforcement personnel in various situations until relieved by a supervisor officer.
* Conducts motor vehicle accident investigations; provides first aid for injured persons, and take safeguards to prevent further accidents; interviews principals and witnesses; takes written statements and examines conditions of accident scene; and clears or directs clearing of obstructions and wreckage.
* Investigates crimes against persons and property; interviews victims and witnesses; searches for, evaluates and secures/collects evidence; and arrests suspected perpetrator(s).
* Investigates complaints involving juveniles, including reports of child neglect and persons reported to be contributing to the delinquency of minors; checks business establishments and public places known to be frequented by juveniles; and arrests juvenile and adult offenders.
* Processes warrants and apprehends or assists in the apprehension of wanted persons by court orders or actions in criminal cases.
* Maintains knowledge of local ordinances and state laws, rules of evidence for criminal cases, crime prevention techniques, current investigation techniques, traffic control techniques, care and custody of persons and property.
Prepares and submits required reports and provides assistance, information, and directions to the public.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent AND completion of a California (CA) Basic Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Academy within the last twenty four (24) months from date of application submission OR current enrollment with good class standing in a full-time basic police academy certified by the CA Commission on P.O.S.T.
Experience: No previous sworn law enforcement experience required. In addition to Academy training, any related work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential function of the position is helpful.
Age: 21 years of age at time of appointment.

Knowledge of: Good command of basic grammar and written communication; use and care of firearms; Federal, California state, and local laws applicable to law enforcement; police department equipment, practices, and procedures; proper search and seizure and arrest procedures; geography of the City of Downey and the location of important buildings and streets; and, investigative procedures and techniques.
Ability to: Observe accurately and remember faces, numbers, incidents and places; think and act quickly in emergencies and judge situations and people accurately; effectively analyze problems for an appropriate response under emergency or stress situations; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; understand and interpret laws and regulations; prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports; learn standard broadcasting procedures of a police radio system; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and, meet and maintain the physical requirements established by the Downey Police Department.
License Requirements: Due to the performance of field duties, possession of a valid California Driver's License and possession of an acceptable driving record and the ability to maintain a valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout the course of employment in the position is required.
California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice System: An incumbent appointed to this position is subject to enrollment in the California DMV Pull Notice Program. The Pull Notice program provides information on the incumbent's driving record and Driver's License status on a periodic basis to the City of Downey. An employee assigned a City vehicle must acknowledge receipt and understanding of City Administrative Regulations covering the use of City vehicles.
Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside in seasonal climate and weather conditions. Slippery surfaces, oily conditions, dust, dirt, and odors are conditions frequently encountered. Must constantly work with noise from traffic and police radio. Position requires availability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, on-call and overtime. Physical demands include constant arm and leg movements, driving, standing, and sitting for long periods of time. Bending, stooping, lifting, running, squatting and climbing is also required.

As Security, you are Ojos Locos' first line of defense. We ask that you make it a priority, in addition to securing the facility, that you check IDs, pat downs and manage guests demonstrating aggressive behavior and/or behave in a disruptive, harassing way, possibly breaching the law or the rules of Ojos Locos. Security Office Job Responsibilities
ID Checks
Screening patrons (weapons/illegal substances)
Report incidents identifying who, what, why, when and how. These reports should be emailed at the end of the shift.
Any use of force should be reported immediately to the Director of Security and to the above email by the end of shift.
Monitor restaurant premises with walk throughs, make your presence known, check restroom and outdoor exit areas and any other areas of concealment.
Monitor the parking lot from the main door or the immediate area of our facility.
Make sure no guests are asking in areas that are not designated for smoking.
Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Monitor coworker activity for safety and assistance when necessary.
Acknowledge and execute the Security's Key items to protect Ojos Locos Agreement.
There are three positions within Security: check ID's, screen patrons, and monitoring the premises/patrons.
The expected work hours are as scheduled, typically between the hours of 5 pm until 3am Thursday through Saturday and 5pm until 1 am Sunday through Wednesday. You are responsible for clocking in and out during each shift. Failure to do so, may be grounds for discipline, up to and including termination.
