Duties During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include: Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area. Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions. Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A. Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence. Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teams including Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more. Requirements U.S. citizenship is required. Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license. Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process. Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid. Salary Range Starting Hourly Wage $22.00, commensurate with experience Job Summary The Campus Safety Officer upholds the safety of the University by providing a uniformed campus safety presence on campus and in the University Park neighborhood. Under the guidance of established policies and procedures, this position is responsible for making decisions to protect and aid the University's property, people, and visitors. Core Duties * Patrols and monitors the University of Portland campus by vehicle, foot, or bicycle as appropriate to ensure coverage of campus buildings and grounds. * Responds to service calls. Service calls may include, but are not limited to, unlocking buildings, providing escort to University members, providing information to the University community and members of the public, responding to suspicious activity or other situations involving safety, emergencies, or other urgent matters, and providing assistance to motorists. * Evaluates and notifies building support staff of maintenance concerns as discovered in the course of duties; provides notification of campus hazards to building maintenance as necessary. * Provides security at functions or athletic events as requested by the University. * Provides medical care at the level of basic first aid/CPR/AED as provided by the American * Red Cross or its equivalent. Coordinates with medical responders when a higher level of care is required. * Responds to students in crisis; assesses such situations and coordinates with relevant University staff or external resources (including mental health professionals) as needed. * Responds to notifications from the security and fire alarms across campus that are monitored by campus Safety. * Investigates campus safety matters including, but not limited to, property and person-to-person crimes. * Updates daily activity logs as needed and in a timely manner; completes written incident and investigative reports in a timely, clear, and well-written manner. The Position This position is a peace officer and a humane special agent, commissioned by the Superintendent of Oregon State Police to investigate and enforce animal welfare laws within the State of Oregon. Scores and applications are reviewed monthly to create a shortlist of candidates for interviews. * Protect life and property at Portland International Airport (PDX). * Patrol designated areas by vehicle, bicycle or on foot to deter crime and discover criminal activity and enforce traffic statues and ordinances. * Communicate in person, via radios and computers to broadcast and receive information. * Respond to reports of possible crimes and act according to the situation. * Perform a full range of law enforcement and airport security duties, including serving search and arrest warrants, collecting evidence making arrests, and completing detailed incident reports. * Enforce State statutes, Port, and City ordinances, issuing citations or making arrests as appropriate. * Respond to traffic and other accidents, administer first aid, interview witnesses, and complete accident reports. * Develop contacts to gather information about crimes and maintain intelligence on known criminal activities and suspects. * Ensure public convenience and well-being within airport facilities, addressing inquiries, resolving complaints, and providing personal security services for public officials and other individuals as assigned. * Provide community services and presentations, and respond promptly to the needs of airport tenants, customers, and stakeholders. * High school diploma or GED is required. * A degree in criminal justice, social science or related field is preferred. * Prior experience in law enforcement, corrections, security, or related fields is preferred. * Eligible to be certified as a Police Officer in the State of Oregon. * U.S. citizenship required. * Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon or Washington State driver license prior to hire. * Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance for unescorted access to secured areas of the airport. * Possess combination of physical strength and stamina required to meet physical performance expectations. * Proficiency in understanding and following oral and written instructions in English. SELECTION PROCESS (tentative schedule): * Written Exam: Applicants must successfully pass the Written Exam and submit their scores as part of their application. Only those who submit valid Written Exam scores will be invited to interview * Full Application Review: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis. Human Resources will review submitted application packets for minimum qualifications. A SME panel will assess your qualifications based on the information provided in your application and responses to any supplemental questions. Applications will be periodically reviewed, with candidates shortlisted for interviews on a monthly basis. * Interviews: Monthly Screening Interviews will be conducted for selected candidates. Successful candidates will be invited to participate in Panel Interviews. * Conditional Offers: Following the panel interviews, conditional offers of employment will be extended to selected candidates. * Background Investigation: Candidates who receive a conditional offer will undergo a comprehensive background check, which typically takes approximately 3 months to complete. Once the background check is completed, final offers will be extended, and start dates will be coordinated.
