Oglala Lakota College in Kyle, South Dakota aims to provide students with the educational credentials to compete for employment on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The college offers a wide range of educational opportunities, from community service to certificates to undergraduate degrees in fields like teaching, nursing, human services, business, computers, and vocational education positions at Pine Ridge Reservation. The college was one of the first tribally controlled colleges in the United States. It was, and still is, sanctioned and governed by the Oglala Lakota Sioux tribe with its governing body composed entirely of tribal members. Oglala Lakota offers bachelor's degrees in Social Work, Natural Science, Business Administration and more; master's degrees in Lakota Leadership; and associate's degrees in General Business, Art, Education, Literature and Communication, Nursing, Science, Engineering, Math, and more. You can also obtain a one-year certificate in Customer Service, Entrepreneurship, Office Technology, Television Production, and more. The college's credits are available for transfer to any college depending on the institution's method of transfer. Student support services, such as peer mentoring, tutoring, academic advising and cultural activities, are available to any student. Financial aid is available for eligible students through grants, student employment, and scholarships. Full-time students who are enrolled in 12 credits or more and demonstrate need are given priority. The Oglala Lakota campus is entirely alcohol, tobacco, and drug-free.
