We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Estimator in East Elmhurst, NY. The Senior Estimator is responsible for the coordination of bid documents, labor productions, subcontractors, vendor pricing, subcontractor and vendor buyouts, project start-up meetings, owner estimates, subcontractors and vendor requisitions and cost to completes. Responsibilities * Thoroughly investigates the specifications, scope of work and drawings for his/her portion of a bid and develops a complete understanding of the requirements. * Accurately and timely performs takeoffs and calculations and analyzes data. * Conducts field visits to gather relevant data on project site conditions verify production rates and learn new construction techniques. Adjusts bid methods and incorporates this information accordingly during the bidding process. * Negotiates the best deal for cost, quality, and delivery using the company buyout procedure. * Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of the contract documents and the potential risks for a project. Makes well-supported recommendations on how to mitigate and price risks. * Interfaces extensively with the Contracts department to address any risks or issues with the contract. * Helps develop pricing strategies. * Coordinate with Business Development, Engineering and Operations teams to get bid priced and submitted on time. * Drafts proposals per RFP specifications with detailed pricing and clarifications. Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Related Field. * Thorough knowledge and 7+ years of estimating, engineering, cost tracking systems and site surveying. * Has a solid time management system and demonstrates excellent organizational skills. * Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.), plan and spec reading. * Experience in Primavera, HCSS, On Screen Takeoff (OST) and AGTEK would be advantageous. * Excellent at multitasking. This position requires working on multiple projects at the same time. * Outstanding communication and people skills. SUMMARY: Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare labor, equipment, and materials/subcontractor estimates for bid projects applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles, or processes. Expected Outcomes include, but are not limited to: • Estimates are expected to be completed ethically, timely, competitively, and accurately. • Plans, specifications, and addenda are thoroughly reviewed to ensure that the estimate meets engineered/design requirements. • Estimates for self-performed work accurately depict production units, crew sizes, heavy equipment and tool usage, and additional requirements set forth in the general and supplemental conditions. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate • Completes accurate and complete takeoff of scope of work • Maintains files (electronic data) of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers • Requests quotations from suppliers and subcontractors. Conducts a thorough evaluation of incoming scopes of work and conducts a cost analysis on quotations • Considers and analyzes risk factors • Conducts onsite analysis of pre-existing conditions when applicable • Performs post-bid analysis and participates in bid review meetings with owner or owner's representatives, when required • Participates in project turnover to Operations team ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent technical training and/or experience • Computer skills, particularly Excel • 2-5 years construction field experience desirable OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: • Ability to conceptualize the project schedule from project start through completion, including sequencing/phasing of work • Knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control • Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems BOWEN BENEFITS: Competitive Base Salary: Range is 80-110K based on experience. The Junior Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing accurate, timely bids for commercial HVAC and sheet metal projects. This role involves reading and interpreting plans and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, and preparing cost estimates using AutoBid Mechanical (Trimble/QuickPen) software. The position is ideal for someone with foundational sheet metal knowledge who is eager to grow into a senior estimating role. Major Responsibilities/Activities Review bid drawings, project manuals, and specifications to understand project scope. Attend project job walks and site visits as needed. Prepare quantity take-offs for sheet metal systems using AutoBid Mechanical (Trimble/QuickPen). Set up material specifications, system assemblies, and labor factors in the estimating software. Assist in developing conceptual budgets from Basis of Design (BOD) or preliminary documents. Solicit and track vendor and subcontractor quotes for equipment and services. Analyze quotes to ensure compliance with project requirements and integrate them into estimates. Prepare clear and organized proposal documents in alignment with RFP and bid form requirements. Support the Senior Estimator in bid reviews and post-bid interviews with clients and general contractors. Maintain historical cost data for future estimating reference. Stay informed on relevant building codes, industry standards, and new technologies. Minimum Requirements 3-5 years in relevant “on screen” estimating. Familiarity with AutoBid Mechanical (Trimble/QuickPen) or similar digital estimating software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams), Bluebeam and Zoom. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a commercial HVAC or sheet metal contracting environment. Knowledge of piping or plumbing estimating a plus.
