Ensures compliance with state rules and regulations and facility policies and procedures, and ensures security of various facility areas as assigned, including conducting security checks and room searches, scheduling/overseeing periodic searches for contraband, monitoring electronic door locks and security communication devices, and monitoring residents' actions, activities, and visitations. Ensures compliance with behavior management system, including reviewing all disciplines issued to residents, reviewing grievances and arbitrating complaints as needed. Reviews and investigates written reports on all incidents regarding use of confinement, force, or restraint. Administration of medication and maintains accurate documentation regarding prescription medication to youth. Regularly inspects housing units, identifying problems/concerns, and taking corrective action as directed. Maintains various detailed records as required, and prepares narrative reports as required or requested, such as maintenance, youth behavior, security, and staffing issues. Periodically assists with developing, coordinating, and conducting training sessions as requested. Responds to problems and emergencies from off-duty status, aiding other facility areas as needed. Assumes specific responsibility for coordinating youth and staff in the facility during emergencies, such as fire and severe weather. Other Duties Include: Maintain a high standard of role model behavior for youth. Participate in training and development activities as required. Report any acts, incidents or conditions that reflect the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships. Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per YOI and customer agency guidelines. Perform other duties as assigned or needed. Requirements: Education: High School Diploma Required. Bachelor's Degree Preferred. Experience: Minimum of three years of experience working with children with serious emotional disturbances or substance abuse problems in a residential setting is required. Prior supervisory experience in related setting is preferred. Working knowledge of and ability to assist in assessing youth regarding chemical dependency, substance abuse, and physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Skills: Possession of or ability to obtain first aid/CPR; Effectively supervise, direct, monitor and appropriately interact with youth, and diplomatically deal with sensitive situations; Effective verbal and communication skills with co-workers, other stakeholder departments, Probation Officers, caseworkers, law enforcement and court personnel, juvenile residents, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities. Physical Demands: Must be in good physical health, emotionally stable, and be able to move about the property. Must be able to participate in youth activities. Must be able to transport youth or staff. Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state and to the extent that data is attainable under the law.
