Maintains, calibrates and troubleshoots power plant control systems in support of efficient generation of power under varying conditions. LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY * Complex responsibilities related to primary focus of job area. Uses best practices and in-depth business knowledge to solve complex problems and improve products or services. May adapt procedures, processes and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Directs activities of I&C contractors and vendors. * All other duties as assigned. * Trouble shoots and maintains all AC/DC control circuits and components. * Perform required testing of various safety systems such as ESD, fire detection and gas detection systems. * Provide detailed troubleshooting and programming modifications for Programmable Logic Control/Distributed Control Systems and HMI systems. * Serves as a technical resource to operations personnel and lower technician positions. * Completes and publishes calibration and testing reports for documentation purposes. * Performs complex maintenance, configuration and calibration of process and safety instrumentation utilized in the multitude of processes involved in electrical generation. * Serves as a mentor and assists with training entry level technicians. * Direct, plan and conduct assignments of a complex nature serving in a lead role. * Schedules and coordinates daily activities with peer operations personnel and is able to negotiate scheduling conflicts. REQUIREMENTS LEVEL II * Associate's Degree in a technical discipline, And 1 year experience in Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls; Or * High School Diploma/GED And 3 years experience in Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls; Or * Prior military experience for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214 and 2 years experience in Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls. * A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in an Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls field is equivalent to 1 year of Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls experience. * Experience must include 1 year Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls experience in a power plant or other process controlled environment including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or processing or manufacturing. Lubricate and check lubrication equipment; adjust packing glands as necessary and perform necessary operative maintenance, using appropriate hand tools. Operate oil filtering equipment. Erect and remove simple scaffolding and rigging. Perform routine cleaning of plant areas and equipment, including outside areas, as assigned. Load, unload, move and handle materials, supplies and equipment; open boxes, barrels, bags and other materials using material handling equipment. Monitor water chemistry as required. Maintain water pH and follow EPA guidelines as applicable. Assist in preparing boilers and auxiliaries for operation and removal from service. If applicable, monitor coal feed to mills and burners and observe conditions of fires and furnaces. Hand lance slag in boilers, hand- operating soot blowers, unplugging ash lines, disposing of clinkers and other similar work. Use flow diagrams to identify system piping and equipment and revise these prints as required.
