The research assistant is responsible for recruiting study subjects, data collection, and conducting supportive tasks that ensure successful research visits for study subjects. The research assistant will be trained to collect data including survey questionnaires, EEG acquisition, MRI scans with infants, babies, and children, biospecimen collection, biosensors collection, and behavioral assessments. Supportive tasks include providing support to additional family members during visits, planning and executing team or board meetings, and preparing for data collection. Responsibilities: Recruit research participants for the study at local OBGYN Clinics, Substance Use Treatment Centers, community events, and other community partner agencies Perform inventory of all study supplies and work with Project Manager to reorder when necessary. Prepare biological samples for shipment to HBCD laboratories, using dry ice, and using extreme caution for identifying the correct samples. Be trained on infant testing measures such as the NIH Baby Toolbox and Deferred Imitation; and managing data for the OSU site. Collect data across modalities of the study including, Questionnaires, Biosamples such as urine, saliva, nails, infant stool, Biosensors, EEG Acquisition, MRI support, and/or Behavioral assessments Maintain study platforms such as Ripple to track participation, store contact information and other personal information necessary for communication around scheduling and retention. Ensure the laboratory is prepared for experiments (maintain inventories, maintain sterile conditions as required) Train and perform in a supervisory/staff support role during research visits while supporting team members in completing tasks, making decisions in the moment, handling emergency based on protocol, and ensuring all components of a research visit are accurately administered and all steps are completed. Support parents during an MRI scan, managing the child participant during EEG visits, and assisting in other data collection duties that support the data collection team. Attend national and local team meetings and trainings, and represent the OSU site on meetings when needed. Support transportation needs for research families when needed, including being responsible for renting an OSU car and driving families to and from the research center. About this Position The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Oklahoma State University is offering a one-year rotating internship position in Food Animal Medicine and Surgery. The intern will assist in the instruction and supervision of veterinary students in clinical rotations and laboratories. Clinical duties will include night, weekend, and holiday emergency duty and inpatient critical care for food animal cases and is shared with up to two other house officers. The intern may spend up to six clinical weeks to gain additional experience in specialty areas such as ophthalmology, radiology, equine medicine and surgery, neurology, cardiology, and theriogenology. Each week offers rounds, journal club, Morbidity and mortality rounds with all large animal faculty, and house officer seminars including all house officers and clinical faculty. The intern will provide primary emergency service after hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis with up to two other house officers. About this Position The College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital at Oklahoma State University is seeking an enthusiastic person with a passion for small animals. Successful candidate will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Candidates will have the opportunity to actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students, as well as work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care. This is a full-time position with varying shifts and hours. Shift differentials are available for non-traditional shifts. Every full-time employee receives a full benefits package. This includes health insurance, life insurance, retirement, 13 paid holidays (including one full week off around Christmas), paid annual and sick leave, and more. You also have free access to OSU's gym and fitness centers, employee assistance program, and free professional development through main campus's human resources department. The VTH is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teaching hospital providing 24 hour care for all domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species. The VTH admits more than 15,500 clinical cases per year, and hospitalizes 5-8 ICU cases per day. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulse oximetry, capnography, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure and central venous pressure monitoring, Pleur-Evac suction units, and ventilator therapy. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with 20 small animal specialists, as well as a supportive group of interns and residents. Required Qualifications High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date) Veterinary Assistant - High school/GED with two years' experience. Veterinary Technician I - Registered Veterinary Technician or completed associate degree in veterinary technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain licensure within 120 days of hire. Veterinary Technician II - Three years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice. Veterinary Technician III - Six years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice. Senior Veterinary Technician - Eight years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice with greater than one year experience within a specific specialty. Veterinary Technician Specialist I - Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition. Veterinary Technician Specialist II - Must meet all requirements of Veterinary Technician Specialist I. Five years of experience as Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition. Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Experience in restraint of small animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, diagnostic lab equipment, electrodiagnostic equipment, and ECG, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages. Preferred Qualifications Associate's Veterinary Technology Five years experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition. Ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision. Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT).
