Administration: Coordinates the majority of the communication with outside entities such as the Bus Barn and other service providers as necessary. Responsible for planning, directing, and leading the Enrichment Programs. Participates in the implementation of goals, objectives, and strategies for the Enrichment Programs and activities. Recommends resources for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies needed for program implementation. Reports safety hazards and repair needs to the supervisor and the Recreation Superintendent, making recommendations for facility improvements. Programming: Creates and implements activities for children ages 6 to 14 years old that include physical, educational, cognitive, and social enrichment. Responsible for the supervision and discipline of participants during the program. Communicates with parents/guardians about program activities, schedule, and children's participation and behaviors. Responsible for tracking participant attendance and completing accident/incident reports. Ensures the safety of all participants and staff. Recruits, leads, assigns, monitors, and supports part-time staff, instructors, and volunteers within assigned program areas. Trains, motivates, and monitors part-time staff to maximize performance. Provides daily on-site supervision and monitors enrichment programs and activities. Suggests any needed changes to program policies and procedures, methods, and rules. Responsible for the inventory, upkeep, purchasing, and proper maintenance of program equipment and supplies. Implements new program ideas by identifying activities that align with the mission of the Recreation District and district patrons. Position Qualifications Ability to perform duties and responsibilities unsupervised. Ability to design and implement educational and social activities for children ages 6 to 14. Ability to supervise part-time staff, volunteers, and children enrolled in enrichment programs. Ability to interact effectively with parents and children enrolled in enrichment programs in a variety of situations. Ability to accurately fill out and complete program reports. Ability to perform physical duties as required, for example, program set-up, general preparation, program equipment maintenance, check out, and storage, etc. Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience leading activities with children ages 6 to 14. Two (2) year's experience leading youth programs and staff. Experience working with elementary school students in a formal capacity; teaching experience strongly preferred. Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in education, psychology, social services, or a related field. -OR- A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and, abilities to perform the duties of the position. Certifications: The possession of or ability to obtain CPR/First Aide Certification. Physical Demands and Work Environment The After School Enrichment Program takes place at the Montrose Field House, Pomona Elementary, and Johnson Elementary. Program hours are from 3 pm-5:30 pm Monday through Friday. Primary functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods. This position will require moderate lifting, and heavy lifting on occasion, and working indoors and in outdoor weather conditions, on occasion.
