Administers bronchopulmonary hygiene procedures and assists patient in performing breathing exercises. Performs Cardiopulmonary testing procedures as ordered by physician, including preparation of equipment, assessment and monitoring of patient during procedure, coaching patient during procedure and maintaining infection control processes for patient and equipment. Performs tests, procedures and treatments to inpatients and outpatients on a scheduled basis as well as emergent patient situations. What you'll do: Administer all modalities of the Cardiopulmonary Department as described in the policy and procedure manual. Consult with physicians and other healthcare staff to develop and modify individual patient care plans. Evaluate patients by performing limited physical examinations and conducting diagnostic tests including those that measure lung capacity tests and acidity and alkalinity of the blood. Treat patients by using oxygen or oxygen mixtures, chest physiotherapy, and aerosol medications. Teach patients/residents how to use medications and equipment. Perform regular checks on patients and equipment. This position is responsible for independently performing respiratory care procedures which requires the ability to interpret physician orders, assess patient needs, deliver prescribed therapy and evaluate patient response. This includes invasive procedures that may be performed with minimal supervision and minor assistance in patient care units and critical care areas. Therapists will serve in a consulting role by communicating suggestions to other members of the clinical team regarding the respiratory care delivered to patients in all areas of the hospital. The position requires the ability to respond promptly to changes in workload and make adjustments in assignments as needed to achieve optimal productivity, efficacy and quality patient care. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited program Minimum Experience One year Respiratory Care experience preferred Required Registration/License/Certification Current Kansas respiratory therapy license Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the NBRC Basic Life Support certification from either American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Health Care Provider or Basic Life Support (American Heart Association-Health Care Provider) successfully completed within the first 90 days of employment.
