Responsibilities
Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
Assess patients for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop a plan of care based on diagnosis.
Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment. Monitor, record and communicate patients condition. Perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcome.
Educate the patient and family about the health condition and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.
Respond to emergency resuscitation team code.
Requirements
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
Respiratory Therapist specializing in Registered credentialed from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Kansas Board of Healing Arts required.
Education:
High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with Physician's orders. Consults with Physician in event of adverse reactions.
Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, non-invasive ventilation, therapeutic gas administration, blood gas collection and analysis and aerosol equipment. Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy. Inspects and tests Cardiopulmonary and respiratory therapy equipment to ensure appropriate safety and functionality. Reports improper working equipment.
Monitors patient's physiological status and responses to therapy, tests and procedures such as vital signs, breath sounds, respiratory rate and pattern, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.
Administers bronchopulmonary hygiene procedures and assists patient in performing breathing exercises.
Performs Cardiopulmonary testing procedures as ordered by physician, including preparation of equipment, assessment and monitoring of patient during procedure, coaching patient during procedure and maintaining infection control processes for patient and equipment.
Performs tests, procedures and treatments to inpatients and outpatients on a scheduled basis as well as emergent patient situations.
Performs basic life support measures and responds to emergent patient situations.
Maintains all cardiopulmonary and respiratory equipment by performing daily maintenance, calibration, pre-use check out procedures and troubleshooting to ensure and maintain a state of readiness.
Provides patient and family education on Cardiopulmonary disorders, tests, procedures, therapies and treatments.
Assists Cardiac and Pulmonary rehab patients in therapeutic exercises and activities, provides patient education during rehab sessions, assesses and monitors patients and completes documentation and patient charges.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is a professional or student of Respiratory Therapy who assesses and treats patients with both acute and chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system in collaboration with physicians and care providers to coordinate the best plan of care for the patient. JOB SUMMARY:
Respiratory Therapist is responsible for the assessment, treatment and care of patients with breathing disorders. Patients range from infants to the elderly. He/She will assume primary responsibilities for all respiratory care modalities in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures according to the physician's orders. Maintain patient records, and select, assemble, check, troubleshoot, and operate respiratory equipment. The respiratory therapist will have effective communication with physicians, patients, caregivers and other staff members and will report directly to the director of respiratory. The respiratory therapist will provide services in accordance with the State Practice Act.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Previous supervisory experience preferred
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited R.T. program
Req. Cert./ Current license in the state of Kansas as a Registered Respiratory
Registration: Therapist or Certified Respiratory Therapist.
American Heart CPR certified
ACLS certified
NRP certified

JOB DUTIES (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
Assure delivery of quality R.T. services for inpatients and outpatients.
Set up equipment and medications and administer treatments as ordered.
Performs Sleep Studies
Performs basic Spirometry
Performs arterial blood gas punctures and analysis
Responds to all Code Blue emergencies
Performs airway maintenance including: proper use of manual resuscitators, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, and airway suctioning.
Maintains mechanical ventilation in emergency situations
Recognize medical problems with patients and notify physician
Maintains equipment in proper work order and adapts the equipment to meet the needs of the patient.
Instructs assistants in treatment procedures, and provides them with supervision while they are working with their patients.
Communicates with Physicians, other department staff, patients and family members regarding patient progress, problems and plan.
Documents the treatment in concise format in accordance with Standards of Practice.
Instructs the patient, family members or other caregivers in therapeutic procedures and/or exercises to be continued upon discharge.
Assists in the referral process when additional services are required.
