Oltmans Construction Co. company history timeline

1932

Founded in 1932 by J.O. Oltmans, our firm has been led by three generations of Oltmans, all of whom have adhered to principles of integrity and trust that make the company a leader in the field of commercial and industrial construction for the private and public enterprise system.

He established the firm of J.O. Oltmans, General Contractor, hiring as his first employee Dennis Roy [1932], who became his right-hand man.

1932 – D.J. Roy Sr., Oltmans future Vice President, joins the firm and an official partnership is formed.

1936

In 1936, Oltmans brought into the business his son, “Bud”, who later became president and then chairman of the board.

1938

Five years later [1938], the first office opens on East 18th Street, Los Angeles, CA with construction contracts grossing over $100,000.

1940

1940 — Oltmans is the first to pioneer concrete tilt-up construction in Southern California.

1946

In 1946, the company incorporated as Oltmans Construction Co., with O.H. (Bud) Oltmans as vice president and D.J. Roy as secretary.

1946 — Due to the desire to include D.J. Roy as a partner, it was decided to form a corporation.

1950

The 1950’s brings major growth for Oltmans Construction Co.

Robert M. Holmes begins his Oltmans career in 1950 as a Project Manager.

1955

Oltmans retired in 1955 but remained on the board of directors of Oltmans Construction Co.. He traveled extensively, and also enjoyed collecting reading material on Abraham Lincoln.

1964

In 1964, J.O. Oltmans II, the son of O.H. Oltmans, joins the firm; making him the third generation of Oltmans to work at the company.

1975

John Gormly joins Oltmans in 1975 as an Estimator-Trainee.

1990

1990 — Oltmans launches its Special Projects Division bringing our general contracting skills and project management expertise to the unique challenges of interior/exterior improvements, renovations and seismic retrofits.

1997

1999

1999 — Oltmans ranks #194 of ENR’s Top 225 International Contractors and ranks #45 on LABJ’s Los Angeles Business Journal’s list of LA’s 100 Largest Private Companies.

2000

2000 — Oltmans launches the solar division and is considered one of the largest solar providers in Southern California.

2009

2009 – Oltmans Solar Division is established and headed by Tony Perez, Vice President.

2019

Oltmans Construction Co. is ranked at #137 on the ENR Top 400 List for 2019.

Spring 2020 – Oltmans Construction Co. opens doors to new regional offices in Ontario, CA, and Henderson, NV bringing the regional office count to five – four across California, and one in Nevada.
