The building first opened on 27 December 1886 and was soon referred to as ‘Olympia’ in the company’s prospectus linking events with the time of the Ancient Greeks.
The first was by Rob Ryan, who highlighted the ornate barrel roof and referenced the first event to take place at Olympia London; the Hippodrome Circus in 1886.
