**POSITION SUMMARY**
**The Traveling Engineer/Conductor oversees the train, freight and crew operates track switches, couples, and uncouples cars and places cars to facilitate loading and unloading, places cars and engines in rail yards and on the main railroad; operates trains safely by complying with operating rules and train handling policies to transport freight in a satisfactory manner. The incumbent will travel to other company locations throughout the Continental U.S. to perform their duties when business needs arise, while maintaining their current location as their primary. Executes the mechanical operation of the train, train speed, and handling. Ensures clear communication with dispatcher and track authority; receives, relays, or acts upon oral, written, or radio instructions from dispatcher, yardmaster or other personnel indicating the switch movement, placement, or delivery of railroad cars and/or a train. Performs work safely, effectively, and efficiently in accordance with company policies and procedures and Federal Railroad Association rules and regulations to meet company objectives.**

**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
**• Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operation, and the FRA**
**• Move trains safely in the yards and over roads**
**• Manipulate throttle and brake controls; interprets gauges and controls**
**• Operate valves and switches both inside and outside of the cab, including applying and releasing handbrakes**
**• Operate track switches, inspect equipment on cars and use radio communications to control train movement**
**• Assist and instruct train crews to couple and uncouple cars, operate switches, and make minor repairs to railcars: including replacing heavy couplings or air brake hoses**
**• Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety**
**• Review instructions from Trainmaster and discuss with train crew**
**• Coordinate execution of railcar switch list**
**• Communicate with other parties in the yard using proper hand signals and/or radio communication protocol**
**• Adhere to directions from conductors and brakemen**
**• Conduct the movement of rail cars and train movements; signal crew member(s) for movement of the engine or train using lantern, hand and flag signals, or radio to indicate when to start, stop, and back-up or set and release air brakes**
**• Observe, interpret, and relay arm, lantern, or radio signals and all other indications affecting movement of a train**
**• Operate track switches (visually checks switch condition and direction) to change the direction of the engine or cars within yard limits or on the main railroad; may apply or release hand brakes to switch or perform other duties**
**• Read and understand the book of rules, timetables, bulletins, train orders, waybills, placards, safety instructions, and other written or printed material**
**• Prepare required daily reports, switch lists (manually or with a computer), and fill out forms including train orders**
**• Inspect the condition of the train and equipment in movement and while stationary**
**• May couple air and electrical connections between locomotives when making up trains**
**• Judge speed and distance of moving objects or parts**
**• Recall information required from work activity**

About the role - CDL Driver Class B (Lamont, FL)
We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for a CDL Driver within our Orica USA Commercial team.
This role will be responsible for driving and operating Orica's bulk trucks (Mobile Mixing Units) and installing blasting products for our customers at local construction sites, mines, and quarries as well as being accountable for the upkeep and maintenance of the equipment.
This is a blended role that consists of 40% driving and 60% physical work related to the installation of blasting products. Responsibilities include product loading, driving a Class B CDL truck, pulling hoses, and climbing on and off the truck in all types of weather conditions.
Additionally, this role will operate plant and equipment to provide blasting products while assisting in delivering a high-quality service of bulk explosives to customers. We prioritize safety and strive to ensure that all operations are always conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

What you will be doing
This is a driver (40%) / laborer (60%) position
Pre-trip and post-trip inspection of vehicles including checking and filling fluid levels
Drives emulsion tanker truck and box trucks
Ensure raw materials and dangerous goods are used, handled, and stored according to requirements
Ensure minimum damage to the environment through waste minimization and control
Report all unusual incidents and accidents immediately
Participate in daily toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings
What you will bring
At least one year of experience driving and/or handling materials
Knowledgeable of DOT regulations required

As a member of our Track Maintenance Team, you'll play a vital role in constructing, inspecting, and repairing tracks and other railroad assets and maintaining our railway corridors.
This is a full-time (40hrs/wk) position and is subject to on-call, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Travel is required to (and remain at) job sites for extended periods, sometimes for days or weeks at a time, in the designated seniority region.
Training for this position is company-paid on-the-job and classroom training and will include travel to the BNSF Training Center.
Key responsibilities may include:
Track maintenance repair and installation; repair and rebuild railroad track as well as perform maintenance by pulling spikes, cutting, welding, or drilling rail. This also includes maintaining a clean right of way by removing hazards such as brush, trees, vegetation, litter, and cargo spillage.
Maintain trackbed which includes manually compressing ballast, remove/install ties and replacing, cutting, and adjusting rail in addition to lifting and carrying materials with assistance.
Operate equipment - power hand tools such as electric, pneumatic or hydraulic tools (drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws and grinders) as well as non-powered hand tools and shovels, picks, saws, and grinders.
Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

* Climb on/off equipment, set/release hand brakes, couple/uncouple air hoses, remove/replace broken railcar knuckle, ride moving cars by holding onto grab irons or ladders
* Observe, interpret and relay hand, lantern, and other signals for train movement
* Judge and control speed and clearance distance of cars
SWITCHING FUNCTIONS
* Operate track switches and derails to change train routing within yards or on road
* Check switch points for proper alignment
TRAIN AND EQUIPMENT INSPECTIONS
* Switch, spot cars and determine train make-up
* Observe and monitor track conditions (e.g. broken rails, defective switches, weather-related problems)
* Inspect cars per federal regulations
* Observe and report on passing train conditions
