IBM had hoped to leverage Lotus 1-2-3 to challenge the increasingly demanded Microsoft Excel software, but alas, there was little slowing down the Microsoft juggernaut during the 1990’s.

2000

Much of this was due to the fact that IIS was often enabled by default on many installations of Windows NT and Windows 2000.

Circa 2000, in excess of 100 million people use computers as aids.

2001

In the EU the share of innovative products new to the international markets is about 7% in average (Eurostat, 2001).

2003

They show that while across macro regions, areas that adopted early are on average more densely populated and wealthy today (as documented by Ashraf and Galor, 2011), within Western Eurasia, the early adopters are instead on average poorer than those that delayed.

Lotus 1-2-3 steadily lost marketshare, and IBM finally announced the end of support for the software in 2013.
