Brenda Nevidjon, RN, MSN, FAAN is Chief Executive Officer of the Oncology Nursing Society, a professional organization of more than 37,000 member. She is Professor Emerita at Duke University School of Nursing where she taught in the Nursing and Healthcare Leadership specialty. She has been a leader in service and education settings and her career is distinguished by her being the first nurse and first woman to be chief operating officer of Duke University Hospital. She was in the inaugural class of the Robert Wood Johnson Nurse Executive Program and completed the Wharton/Johnson & Johnson Executive Fellows Program. Through diverse clinical and administrative oncology experiences in Canada, Switzerland and the United States, she has devoted her energy to bridging practice settings and academic environments to advance patient care, creating innovative work environments, promoting scholarship in practitioners, and developing leaders. Ms. Nevidjon has extensive publications, including four books, twenty book chapters and more than 20 journal articles. She is a past president of the Oncology Nursing Society and is fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, which recognizes Nursing's most accomplished leaders in education, management, practice and research.
