PeriOperative Services is a fast paced, critical care environment, encompassing the PreAnesthesia Testing, PreOp, and Post Anesthesia Care units. Staff nurses must be flexible, hardworking team players. ACLS and PALS are required within six months of employment for PreOp and PACU (offered on site). In these areas patients are prepped and recovered from surgery, working closely with the OR, anesthesiologists and CRNAs.

With a family centered environment with a spa like feel, the Women's and Children's Pavilion at CarolinaEast encompasses a Labor and Delivery Unit of 7 LDR's, 2 Triage Bays, 1 cesarean section OR, and 2 PACU bays. Our Mother/ Baby/ Peds/ Antepartum/ GYN units encompass 16-26 beds providing couplet care to the well mother/newborn couplet. We also provide care to low risk antepartum patients, GYN patients with routine procedures such as hysterectomy and mastectomy, and our pediatric population with routine diagnoses such as Hyperbilirubinemia, Failure to Thrive, RSV, and Flu. Women's and Children's houses a Special Care Nursery for our newborns who require more intense observation and for feeder/grower neonates focusing on gaining strength for discharge.

Surgical Care Unit (SCU) is a 26 bed medical/surgical unit that is staffed with a combination of LPNs, RNs and PCTs who provided safe and compassionate care for a variety of surgical patients. These patients consist of urology patients such as cystoscopies, prostatectomies, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL), nephrectomies, etc. General surgical patients consisting of hernia repair; incision and drainage or debridement of abscesses or infections in various locations; colon resections, ostomy placements and drain placements; laparoscopic procedures like cholecystectomies and appendectomies. Vascular patients, which deal mostly with amputations of limbs and revascularization of limbs such as bypasses. Wound vacuums and a ton of wound care. SCU is a fast pace unit that will assist with building great critical thinking skills.
