Opera San José was founded in 1984 by mezzo-soprano late Irene Dalis, who served as General Director for 30 years.
On September 18, 2004, Opera San José opened its debut season in the California Theatre.
Upon General Director Irene Dalis’ retirement in June 2014, the OSJ Board of Directors appointed Mr.
Prior to his retirement in 2014, Doctor Rohrbaugh conducted more than 70 productions and more than 600 performances for Opera San José. Upon Ms.
Modified and approved by the Opera San José Board of Directors on April 22, 2015.
In March of 2019, in the onset of COVID-19, the company announced its first performance cancelation in its history simultaneously launching the COVID-19 Artists and Musician Relief Fund one of the first of its kind in the nation.
Hancock’s retirement in Fall 2019, Khori Dastoor, assumed the position of General Director.
