Job Description

Jersey City Medical Center is the only 3rd Magnet Designated Hospital for Nursing Excellence in Hudson, Union, or Essex counties. The operating room is an exciting, dynamic and innovative place to work that provides exciting new challenges and professional development. A Registered Professional Operating Room Nurse is an integral part of the perioperative team and serves as an advocate for patients who are undergoing anesthesia and/or sedation. The Operating Room Nurse is responsible for managing nursing care within the O.R. through observing the surgical team from a broad perspective and assisting the team in creating and maintaining a safe, comfortable environment. These responsibilities include but are not limited to, coordinating complete nursing assessments and care for patients and participates in patient and family teaching for assigned patients within the Operating Room. The Registered Professional Nurse in the Operating Room provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the perioperative setting.

Job Details:
The circulating nurse makes preparations for an operation and continually monitors the patient and staff during its course. They work in the operating room outside the sterile field in which the operation takes place.

This is a Registered Nurse (RN) in an Operating Room (OR), entry-level RN, no experience is needed for this position.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manages all nursing care within the operating room Records the progress of the operation. Accounts for the instruments and handles specimens. Observes the surgical team from a broad perspective. Assists the team to create and maintain a safe, comfortable environment for the patient’s surgery.


Qualifications:
Current and valid State RN License from Kansas (KS). Completed a Nursing program from an accredited university. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS). Scrub experience preferred but not required.

The Float Pool RN will serve as a healthcare team leader by:

Super Float Pool Overview

Perform based on departmental policies (i.e., Surgical counts, time out or anesthesia blocks). Continually monitor and anticipate the needs of the interdisciplinary team. Proficient in telephone screening and interviewing skills. Use facility resources appropriately and avoid wasteful practices. Analyze work area and make recommendations for potential cost effective or process improvements.

Qualifications
Education : Associate degree, required. Bachelor's degree, preferred. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.
Experience : A minimum of two years relevant experience, required.
License/Certification : Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required. Advanced certifications as required per facility, required. Specialty certification, preferred.
Additonal Skills required:
• Appropriate customer service, effective and appropriate customer relations, verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, conflict resolution, critical thinking and computer literacy.
• Advanced training as required by department.
• Ability to set priorities and organize workload of unit.

• Objectively evaluate suggestions, grievances and processes to identify opportunities to improve performance and quality of care.

• Maintains patient's privacy, confidentiality and dignity.
• Maintains current knowledge of and adheres to professional agency's standards, position statements, guidelines or recommended practices, i.e. AORN, ASPAN, SGNA, etc.
