The Opportunity: Skagit Valley College (SVC) is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Emergency Medical Technician program. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional teaching skills, enthusiasm for the subject matter, an inclusive and equity-driven approach to teaching and learning, and innovative pedagogy and teaching strategies. Candidates should be able and excited to teach hands-on and lecture-based coursework in the department. The EMT program currently has one of the highest completion rates at the college for its EMT-B Certificate program. The program has a strong network of field trainers from EMS agencies across the region, and these field trainers assist the faculty with providing the students hands-on practice with vitally important skills. The program has a reputation for innovation, and its faculty and field trainers are incorporating greater fidelity in simulation into the curriculum and experimenting with virtual reality to provide a wider array of simulation experiences. The college and program would like to explore the possibility of expanding into offering training to prepare graduates for the Advanced EMT (AEMT) certification. Minimum Qualifications: * Experience teaching, co-teaching, or evaluating in EMT-B courses; * Associate degree in emergency services or a related field from an accredited college or equivalent education and experience; * Three years of experience in direct patient care working as an emergency medical technician, paramedic, firefighter, or other first responder; * Active certification as an EMT instructor from NAEMSE, NAEMT, or a similar approved entity; * Certified as a Washington State EMS Evaluator (ESE) and have begun a qualified online course to complete the Washington Senior EMS Instructor (SEI) certification. IMPORTANT NOTE: the candidate must complete the SEI certification before teaching courses and beginning the tenure-track position. For candidates who meet most preferred qualifications but are still earning the SEI, the tenure-track position could begin in April 2026 instead of January. Responsibilities: Care Giver: Responsible for a designated group of residents during the shift; knows where their residents are and physically checks on them throughout the shift. Observes, reports and documents symptoms and conditions of residents for changes in condition such as skin, behavior, alertness, weight, dietary and participation in activities. Responds to security system and resident call bells promptly. Notifies supervisor and/or Health Care Coordinator if a resident has increased care needs. Assists with continence management and disposes of all continence products properly to ensure sanitation of resident suite and community restrooms. Serves and collects food trays and assists as needed; reports refusal of meals or loss of appetite. Maintains cleanliness of resident's room and work areas. Practices good standard care precautions of cleanliness, hygiene and health. Helps residents maintain independence, promotes dignity and physical safety of each resident. Actively participates/leads and assists residents with activities of daily living (i.e. bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, ambulation, transferring, eating) as instructed. Engages residents in life skills and other life enrichment activities. Greets and assists all internal and external customers, guests, family members, residents, vendors and team members. Does resident laundry as assigned and needed. Medication Tech duties: Reviews service plan to learn pertinent information about residents. Assists/observes medications and treatments for each resident using the medication observation record and the Six Rights of Medication Pass. Documents and initials form as medications are given including appropriate documentation for refusal or missed doses. Maintains confidentiality of all resident information including resident medication. Reports all resident concerns made while assisting resident with the medication to the Nurse and/or Health Care Coordinator (HCC). Restocks medication cart after all medication passes. Assists in checking medication regardless of packaging system. Counts all narcotics with another Medication Care Manager or Nurse each shift. Maintains and cleans the Medication Room, med charts, treatment carts for neatness cleanliness, availability of medications and expired medications. Follows re-fill process for medications. Participates in the development of the Service Plan and monthly updates. Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse and respiration rates. Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, sharp sticks and hazardous chemicals immediately. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Qualifications: Certified Nurse's Aid certification preferred. High School diploma/GED Must be 18 years of age. Assists and is trained to perform a variety of eye care duties to assist the eye care providers in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Essential Responsibilities: * Completes required classroom training and reading assignments. Successfully completes the Independent Study Course for Ophthalmic Assistants. Performs patient care under direct supervision during initial training period. Completes skills competency check-off for visual acuity methods, non-contract or application tonometry; manual lensometry; medical and ocular history including allergies & medications; blood pressure; appointment making and messages. * Prepares examination and treatment rooms by cleaning, stocking and arranging supplies and equipment which requires bending, reaching and moderate lifting of up to approximately 45 pounds throughout the day. * Review appointment schedule, interviews patient to obtain ocular history, instructs or assists patient in preparation for scheduled procedure including communication by telephone and in person, charting medical information and answering routine questions. * Performs basic and routine vision screening examinations using appropriate ophthalmic instruments and tools, and records data, including reading fine print and identification of colors. * Administers eye, medication (drops/ointments) as ordered by provider following appropriate practice and procedures. * Cleans and maintains ophthalmic instruments. * Performs other duties as assigned.
