*What you'll do:*

Performs duties in capacity of "scrub" technologist as prescribed by hospital policies and procedures.
Sets room for a routine, uncomplicated procedure with supplies and equipment in 5-15 minutes.
Sets room for complicated or multi-procedure case requiring many special supplies in 30 minutes.
Assists circulator in checking equipment.
Assists circulator in obtaining supplies prior to bringing patient to room.
Has basic knowledge of instrumentation and its appropriate use.
Checks instrumentation regarding cleanliness, function, correct number of pieces, and completeness of tray.
Allows adequate time for preparation of supplies and counting (i.e., routine case 15 minutes, complicated case 30-40 minutes).
Has basic knowledge of surgical procedures.
Organizes and maintains a neat, clean mayo, instrument, and back tables.
Attempts reasonable anticipation of sequence of instrumentation.
Properly identifies medication.
Handles floor stock medications or medications delivered from pharmacy directly or through the pneumatic tube station. Relocate these medications, in original containers, to designated secure storage locations or delivers directly to appropriate licensed staff.
Keeps track of sponges, needles, and instruments during procedure at all times.
Relays accurate identification of specimens and cultures.
Organizes and assists in end-of-case clean up.
Separates sharp and delicate instruments during clean up.
Assists in pulling cases.
Assists in maintenance of safe environment for patients and staff.
Has knowledge and applies principles of good aseptic practice (i.e., appropriate scrub length, OR attire, proper gowning, gloving, and draping methods).
Checks sterile supplies for proper packaging and dating.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The OperatingRoomTechnician Certified reports to the Director, Surgical Services and assists in nursing care activities under the direction of a registered nurse and according to the policies and procedures of the department.

Position Summary
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Physician, performs the technical functions directly related to surgical asepsis, instrument preparation and presentation during surgical cases. Uses judgment to independently perform various activities related to the effective preparation of instruments prior to, during and following completion of O.R. cases. Duties & Responsibilities
Follows established OperatingRoom policies and procedures Assists in the care, maintenance, distribution and control of equipment and supplies, both sterile and unsterile, which are used in operating procedures Assist with operations in the capacity of a Scrub Attendant. This includes arranging sterile articles, handling/passing serving instruments, dressing materials and suture appropriate to the scheduled operation while maintaining sterility and orderliness of instrument tables Completes sponge, needle and instrument counts with RN prior to, during and after surgery according to hospital policy. Report discrepancies to the Charge Nurse and attending Physician Under the direction of the RN prepares medications, (except narcotics), on the sterile field. Double checks dose with RN or MD prior to passing to MD during the case Assist with infusions under direction of RN or MD. Assist with preparation of the OperatingRoom for surgical procedures prior to surgery by procuring equipment and supplies as indicated In preparation for case, checks equipment for proper functioning, prior to case and after completion of case Participates in the daily stocking of OperatingRoom supplies (e.g. suture or OMNI supplies etc.) Initiates the cleaning of O.R. equipment (e.g. laser machines, etc.) on a daily basis and ensures use of plastic covers Assists with instrument clean-up during routine work hours or on after hour cases. During after hour cases is responsible for cleaning and packing of instruments Performs other duties as assigned Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

* Associate's degree in Surgical Technology from an approved Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation program.

Environmental Enrichment
* Assists in preparing and providing environmental and social enrichment to the laboratory animals following the enrichment program.

Drugs, Supplies and Testing
* Dispenses and fills non-controlled drugs and supplies from the CCM pharmacy to laboratory personnel. This includes arranging sterile articles, handling/passing serving instruments, dressing materials and suture appropriate to the scheduled operation while maintaining sterility and orderliness of instrument tables Completes sponge, needle and instrument counts with RN prior to, during and after surgery according to hospital policy. Report discrepancies to the Charge Nurse and attending Physician Under the direction of the RN prepares medications, (except narcotics), on the sterile field. Double checks dose with RN or MD prior to passing to MD during the case Assist with infusions under direction of RN or MD. Assist with preparation of the OperatingRoom for surgical procedures prior to surgery by procuring equipment and supplies as indicated In preparation for case, checks equipment for proper functioning, prior to case and after completion of case Participates in the daily stocking of OperatingRoom supplies (e.g. suture or OMNI supplies etc.) Initiates the cleaning of O.R. equipment (e.g. laser machines, etc.) on a daily basis and ensures use of plastic covers Assists with instrument clean-up during routine work hours or on after hour cases. During after hour cases is responsible for cleaning and packing of instruments Performs other duties as assigned Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
* Associate's degree in Surgical Technology from an approved Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation program.
OR
Current certification as a Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting [NBSTSA]
* Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation [CPR] certification.
