Postoperative subcutaneous injection of local anesthetic agent as directed by the surgeon. Selecting and applying appropriate wound dressings, including the following: Liquid or spray occlusive materials. Absorbent material affixed with tape or circumferential wrapping. Immobilizing dressing (soft or rigid.). Providing assistance in securing drainage system to tissue. Acts independently in surgery and on-call with regards to the harvesting of veins, radial artery, tendons, bone, skin, and plastic closure on plastic cases. Provides expert assistance in all major surgical cases, under direct supervision of a surgeon. Stays abreast of all new technologies as it relates to specialty areas. Key Requirements and Technology Experience: Required Education -Associate's degree in Surgical Assisting OR -Completion of a Surgical Assisting program from an accredited School of Surgical Assisting Required Certifications & Licensure: -BLS (American Heart Assoc.) Preferred Certifications & Licensure: -NSAA, CFA in the AST, NCCPA in the AAPA. OR -RNFA at the National Assistant at Surgery Certification (NASC). Paramedic (24/48) Department: Fire/EMS Job Status: Full Time FLSA Status: Non Exempt Reports To: Shift Officers Salary Band: H ($61,370 starting pay, dependent on qualifications) Amount of Travel Required: 5% Work Schedule: 24/48 Shift Positions Supervised: EMTs POSITION SUMMARY: This position meets the definition of Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic found in KRS 61.592 (1)(b) and is appropriate for Hazardous Duty status. This position is required to have met professional standards and possess Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) certifications. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: An EMT-P shall be able to operate all ambulances and equipment carried on them to provide the care, treatment, and transportation for the sick, injured, or incapacitated citizens of the City and surrounding areas. Performs preventative maintenance inspections on all equipment, and ensures apparatus is fully inventoried and staffed with proper equipment and medications. Maintain certifications as a Kentucky Certified Career Firefighter and State Certification as a Paramedic. Participates in drills, demonstrations and courses in EMS equipment, and ambulance operation, medical aid, and a wide variety of other subjects relating to the fire and EMS service; studies city geographic, streets and conditions affecting EMS operations; studies and learns departmental standard operating procedures; studies and learns departmental policies and procedures. An EMT-P shall participate in the department's safety education and community outreach programs and activities. Assist in the inspection of residential and commercial business occupancies; assists in performing follow-up procedures to ensure compliance to Fire Codes, National Electrical Code, and Kentucky Building Codes. Cleans, services, and makes minor repairs to ensure the operational readiness of vehicles and emergency equipment; participates in cleaning, repair, and upkeep of departmental buildings, grounds, and facilities. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: This position carries a minimum of 48 hours per week; 24/48 shift. This position must respond to emergencies and perform Paramedic duties as trained or directed by the Incident Commander. Possess a valid driver's license. Must be of good character with no police record that would be detrimental to Erlanger. Must maintain a good personal appearance. Knowledge of current principles and practices of modern emergency medical services. This is an entry level position. This position requires minimal supervisory abilities, analytical abilities, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all city employees, volunteers, officials and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Use of tact, firmness, integrity, impartiality, leadership, initiative, resourcefulness and sound judgment. Completion of or the ability to complete the required hours of courses, training, and recertification in all EMS certifications or related fields.
