Anesthesia and OR tech is a valuable member of the surgical and anesthesia team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, helping with turnovers, cleaning the ORs at the beginning and at the end of the day, assisting with picking cases, transporting patients, helping with anesthesia and materials as needed, performing anesthesia machine daily and in between cases checks, assisting anesthesia providers with regional anesthesia procedures in PACU, assisting anesthesia providers with anything as need in and out of the OR.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Removes or arranges for removal of safety hazards from environment immediately to prevent potential safety hazards from occurring.
Prioritizes and reprioritizes work based on the changing needs of the customers.
Assists the OperatingRoom Team by setting up rooms for cases.
Picks cases for the next day accurately and thoroughly.
Cleans and disinfects instruments, cameras, scopes and light cords.
Assembles kits and instrument trays accurately and thoroughly.
Assists other members of the surgical team with terminal cleanup of room in readiness for the next patient, allowing for rapid turnover.
Assures that materials needed for room turnover are ordered and on hand.
Washes floors, walls, glass and furniture using appropriate cleaning solutions.
Cleans and stocks bathrooms, changing rooms and lounge daily and PRN.
Assists in the transfer of patients to and from the PACU and nursing units PRN.
Assists by holding limbs in the OperatingRoom for prep as directed.
Daily tests, sets up and stocks all anesthesia equipment including but not limited to the anesthesia machine, suction, airway equipment, etc.
Daily and as needed performs maintenance of the anesthesia equipment.
In between cases and at the end of every day maintains and ensures adherence to the infection control standards. Including but not limited to cleaning all anesthesia surfaces with the approved disinfectant, disposing of any contaminated or used equipment, cleaning all equipment that comes in patient contact with the hospital approved disinfectant.
Responsible for ensuring that all equipment is maintained in a manner consistent with the standards of regulatory agencies and hospital policies.
Maintains and stocks all anesthesia supplies (in the OR, in PACU, in Endoscopy suites, in travel carts, in the OB OR etc.) daily and as needed. Ensures adequate inventory, orders anesthesia equipment as needed.
Gathering and transporting equipment and supplies to assist anesthesia providers in the provision of care outside of the operatingroom.
Sets up anesthesia equipment in the operatingroom prior to each case start. Sets up equipment for procedures performed by anesthesia providers (e.g., ultrasound guided peripheral nerve blocks, PICC line placement, central line placement, fiberoptic intubation, etc.).
Assists anesthesia providers while they are performing procedures (e.g., ultrasound guided regional nerve blocks, PICC line placement, central line placement, fiberoptic intubation, etc.) as needed.
Assists with room turnover throughout Surgical Services, including in the endoscopy unit (in addition to cleansing and disinfecting anesthesia equipment, the Anesthesia Technician will occasionally assist in the cleansing and disinfecting of endoscopy equipment).
Frequently checks in with the AIC and both practice leaders and offers assistance to facilitate patient throughput throughout perioperative services.
Checks daily schedule and anticipates flow and needs within perioperative services such as peripheral blocks, patient transport, equipment needs, etc.
