Summary of Job Duties:
The Surgical Scrub Technician assembles supplies for surgical procedures, maintains the sterile field, passes surgical instruments, and assists in room preparation in Labor and Delivery (E5).
UAMS Labor and Delivery unit is located in the Harry P. Ward Clinical Tower. The unit consists of 14 LDR rooms, four triage observational beds, two operatingrooms suites, a three bed recovery room area and two state of the art Neonatal Stabilization rooms used to stabilize acutely ill neonates with specially trained staff from the Intensive Care Nursery. Labor and Delivery provides high-risk obstetrical care for patients all over the state. On average, this unit performs approximately 300-330 deliveries per month. The LDR rooms allow the expectant mother to labor, deliver, and recover in the birthing suites with family support. E5 Labor and Delivery supports patient and family centered care and as a result, the newborns, if stable, are allowed to stay with their mother's after delivery to promote bonding.
Qualifications:

* High School Diploma/GED
* Must be a Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technologist Program or 2 years of experience as a surgical technologist.
* Excellent communication skills
* Strong work ethics, and accountability.
Preferred:
* 2 years of previous experience as a Surgical Scrub Technologist with current BLS.
* Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).

Responsibilities
Assessment of the surgical procedure:
* Ensures availability of appropriate instrumentation, supplies and equipment for assigned cases. Preparation of the OR:
* Ensures that the room has been prepared for the upcoming cases, with appropriate equipment available and ready for use.
Case Completion and Follow up:
* Ensures that the instruments are cleaned arranged and transported to the soiled utility room according to department policy; independently assists with instrument reprocessing tasks when assigned cases are completed and time permits
* Ensures that the operatingrooms are case-ready for the following day's cases
* Exhibits practical knowledge of OR equipment including maintenance and safety aspects
Secretarial duties:
* Admit and discharge patients, ensure front desk logs and phone books are maintained, and manage infant security system alarms as needed.
Other Unit duties:
* Set up rooms in preparation for new admissions, ensure ante-rooms and patient rooms are stocked and complete other duties as assigned.
Professional Performance:
* Utilizes available communication tools; demonstrates teamwork by offering assistance to other team members
* Shares knowledge information and expertise with other staff
* Attends departmental in-services and other educational offerings; consistently demonstrates new knowledge and skills through incorporation into actual clinical practice
* Participate in continuing education by completing the required staff development hours annually and in professional/institutional advancement of self and co-workers.

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the clinical manager, and supervision of the surgeon, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel, a surgical technologist, also known as surgical tech or operatingroomtechnician, is a crucial member of the surgical team. Job Description
The Emergency Medical Technician provides care to emergency and non-emergency patients and maintains positive working relationship with all customer groups and agencies.
An EMT restores and promotes a patient's health by assisting Paramedics in providing life support and transport of sick and injured persons in and out of hospital settings as authorized by established medical protocol or a physician. The EMT operates emergency vehicles and collaborates with emergency medical systems.

What's it like to work as an EMT?
MEMS provides coverage around the clock, seven days per week. Most schedules include 12 or 24 hour shifts with shifts assigned via a bidding procedure.
EMT's work outdoors in all kinds of weather
Physical demand include walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, running and frequent lifting of 110+ pounds. Accurate hearing ability and vision that can be corrected to 20/20 are required.
This position is designated as a safety sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
EMT's receive a starting salary of $39,468 for a metro 12 hr shift + depending on experience. Full benefit package includes retirement plan with generous match. The hourly rate varies based on assigned shifts. MEMS provides higher pay with experience.

Surgical Technicians assist physicians during surgical procedures by anticipating the physician's needs to ensure the procedure is executed as smoothly and efficiently as possible, under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical Technicians also prepare and organize the operatingroom, clean and sterilize equipment, and maintain a sterile environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(1) Transports patients safely to and from the surgical areas, monitors patients during transport for changes and reports any patient or transport events after patient is moved to an area. Assists in transfer of patient from stretcher to operating table and vice versa.
(2) Prepares patient care areas and gurneys for safe and sanitary patient use. This involves wiping down all surfaces and stretchers between each patient.
(3) Assists in assigning patients to their respective areas to ensure efficient and safe patient flow.
(4) Prepares and maintains sterile field during surgical procedures.
(5) Washes and sterilizes all equipment by using germicides and sterilizers. Checks sterile packaging for expiration, package integrity and signs of contamination
(6) Performs needle counts, sponge counts and instrument counts with the supervising RN in the operatingroom.
(7) Scrubs arms and hands before procedures and assists the physician with scrubbing, donning protective surgical attire, etc.
(8) Hands instruments and supplies to the physician and surgical assistants.
(9) Holds retractors and cuts sutures as needed.
(10) Prepares bandages and dressings for the patient and assists with application.
(11) Operates surgical lights, suction machine, and other surgical equipment.
(12) Utilizes correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables in order to prevent injury to patient and personnel.

(14) Restocks the procedure room.

Summary of Job Duties:The Surgical Scrub Technician assembles supplies for surgical procedures, maintains the sterile field, passes surgical instruments, and assists in room preparation in Labor and Delivery (E5).
UAMS Labor and Delivery unit is located in the Harry P. Ward Clinical Tower. The unit consists of 14 LDR rooms, four triage observational beds, two operatingrooms suites, a three bed recovery room area and two state of the art Neonatal Stabilization rooms used to stabilize acutely ill neonates with specially trained staff from the Intensive Care Nursery. Labor and Delivery provides high-risk obstetrical care for patients all over the state. On average, this unit performs approximately 300-330 deliveries per month. The LDR rooms allow the expectant mother to labor, deliver, and recover in the birthing suites with family support. E5 Labor and Delivery supports patient and family centered care and as a result, the newborns, if stable, are allowed to stay with their mother's after delivery to promote bonding.

Must be a Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technologist Program or 2 years of experience as a surgical technologist.

Preferred:
2 years of previous experience as a Surgical Scrub Technologist with current BLS.
Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).

Secretarial duties:

The Cardiovascular Surgical Technician is responsible for providing assistance to the cardiac surgeon in the cardiovascular operatingroom (CVOR) environment; as well as preparing and providing sterile instruments and maintaining the sterilization of surgical equipment, arranging surgical equipment and adjust medical tools to ensure that the surgical devices are functioning properly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Assists cardiac surgeon before, during, or after any cardiology related procedure or surgery
+ Prepares the cardiovascular operatingroom according to case type, places equipment and supplies in operatingroom and arranges instruments, according to instructions
+ Provides sterile instruments under sterile technique to the cardiac surgeon
+ Understands cardiovascular anatomy and physiology and surgical techniques
+ Assists team members to place and position patient on table
+ Aids team to don gowns and gloves
+ Maintains supply of fluids, such as plasma, saline, blood, and glucose for use during operation
+ Hands instruments and supplies to surgeon, holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs other tasks as directed by the surgeon during operation.
+ Puts dressings on patient following surgery
+ Counts sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operation
+ Washes and sterilizes equipment, using germicides and sterilizers
+ Cleans operatingroom

Minimum Requirements:
+ Surgical Technician certification as applicable per state and/or client requirement
+ One year experience as a Surgical Technician in a CVOR (cardiovascular operatingroom) required
+ Certification as a Surgical Technician preferred
+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
+ Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
+ Current CPR if applicable
+ TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
+ Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
