Maintain labels on instrument cabinets and shelves to assist all staff in returning instruments to the proper locations.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reporting to the Administrative Director, with direction from the Registered Nurse, assists the surgeons, anesthesia personnel, Registered Nurse and other professional in the operating room. Performs similar duties in other areas of the hospital as assigned.
Performs in-room surgical scrub duties; patient positioning and draping; sterile instrument and supplies set-up; effectively working with cardiovascular surgeons.
Demonstrates working knowledge of care and handling specimens appropriately.
Assists in preparation of surgical procedures by anticipating needs of physician.
Able to safely operate all electrosurgical equipment, diagnostic equipment, microscope, laser equipment, video equipment, and disposable equipment, as well as equipment unique to each specialty area.
Provides a safe, therapeutic environment for patient and families. Uses patient restraints appropriately.
Works efficiently with physicians and RN's in the variety of surgical procedures done in the OR/OB, with specialized equipment, trays and instruments.
Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of asepsis and consistently maintains sterile technique.
Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy related to procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of techniques used by various surgeons for various procedures.
Able to assemble and troubleshooting all equipment as necessary for procedures.
Ensures all necessary equipment is in the room prior to the start of a case, including prep, Foley, position devices, etc.
Answers telephone in a prompt and courteous manner, addressing callers and patients appropriately by name and/or title.
Performs efficiently in crisis and emergency situations, following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons.
Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. American Heart Association BLS Card
Certification from an approved Surgery Technician School
Current Los Angeles County Fire Card (or must be obtained within 30 days of employment)
