As an OperationsEngineer, you will lead and manage the lifecycle of challenging cross-functional projects, developing and delivering the next generation of sortation and distribution solutions. As an OperationsEngineer for Amazon, you will work with some of the most talented engineers in the design, development, and delivery of physical distribution systems around the globe. You are responsible for managing a technology or integration project, successfully delivering the solution to meet project goals. You may work directly with external equipment vendors, customers, or partners, and you have a solid understanding of the design approaches and industry technologies utilized in fulfillment and distribution center designs. To meet timelines and minimize disruption to support teams, you manage the overall schedule, proactively mitigate risks, and keep the scope of engineering deliverables under control.
This role requires 75% regional travel on a yearly basis. When not traveling, you must have availability to work from a corporate office. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of one of the corporate office locations listed. Relocation assistance may be provided.
Key job responsibilities
- Work independently with internal and external teams to successfully manage the lifecycle of challenging projects, and act as owner in delivering on project objectives and targets. Projects may span organizations or geographies in support of business objectives.
- Actively participate in firm engineering reviews, and make tangible impact on the proposed solutions on an individual system or its components, on the overall systems architecture, and on facility processes.
- Partner with internal teams, stakeholders and external vendors to set project priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules to meet deadlines. Proactively assess stakeholders' dependencies and milestones, problem-solve and drive solutions to mitigate the impact from the issues.
- Lead and coordinate all execution efforts in delivering systems and automated equipment designs per established standards and guidelines. Perform equipment/system installation, throughput and safety qualifications. Simplify, optimize, remove bottlenecks and provide feedback while resolving difficult system problems or technical deficiencies.
- Lead effective meetings by setting the objectives, putting the right people in the room and driving detailed business and technical discussions/alignment. Document meeting discussions, decisions and future steps, ensuring alignment on expectations with internal partner teams and outside vendors.
- Promptly and accurately communicate project status, risk analysis and risk mitigation plans. Effectively answer project questions in detail, and regularly produce clear and concise summaries for the project to leadership/management team.
- Competently articulate system and/or equipment designs, including layouts, technical specifications and functional capabilities to internal customers and partner teams.
- Efficiently manage change order controls, purchase orders, and invoice validation/approvals.
- Excel at building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple projects.
- Identify and lead process improvement initiatives that improve the Engineering and cross-teams' efficiencies, optimizing the teams' value and delivery. Through collaboration, generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in compressed periods of time.
- Up to 75% travel domestically although travel intensity can be variable and consist of up to three weeks in a row, including weekends.
A day in the life
You are managing one or multiple projects that can vary in scope, complexity and duration.
Daily tasks may comprise of site coordination with operations teams and contractors on project execution activities or changes; deep diving project progress, schedule and resources, while identifying barriers, creating solutions and driving resolutions. You may be facilitating the planning and/or implementation meetings with projects' stakeholders, ensuring alignment in objectives, expectations, and the next steps; you would capture and publish detailed notes after each meeting to drive ownership and follow-through on the actions and decisions. Reviewing and approving Sorter System Functional specification document is one of the essential tasks, and you may be tracking the on-time creation of the sorter configurations with the internal automation teams. You may be brainstorming and developing workaround solutions while mitigating the project delays or design issues. As a part of the acceptance testing, you may be performing systems installation quality, safety, throughput, and performance qualifications, frequently communicating the progress to internal and external stakeholders. In addition, you may be supporting/training other engineering team members, utilizing the knowledge of Amazon's safety, mechanical, electrical and controls installation standard and guidelines.

**The Opportunity**
This role will give you the opportunity to:
+ Ensure project compliance with applicable codes and standards.
+ Create and maintain project schedules for mid-size to large projects.
+ Manage project team's scope, schedule, budget and quality on assigned projects
+ Assist in the production of HVAC and plumbing system deliverables (Specifications, drawings, calculations, and basis of design documents) for new buildings as well as for renovation and additions to existing facilities

+ Present in front of large groups that include clients, peers, contractors, and end user groups.

**Preferred Qualifications**
Assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering from an accredited program.
+ Knowledge of building mechanical codes and ability to perform accurate load calculations
+ Strong HVAC / Plumbing design capability in industrial, commercial, central plants, boilers, chillers and other related markets

The Critical Data Center Building Engineer performs the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Data Center facilities and equipment to keep building assets at the highest degree of care, value and reliability. The position holder must understand base building and critical environment infrastructure and have experience in performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on all base building and critical system equipment, including electrical, HVAC, fire/life safety, security and emergency back-up systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Identify and be able to immediately recognize system faults and respond to operational and emergency situations.
Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Method of Procedures (MOP) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) established for the critical environments, as well as the formal change control process.
Maintain strict compliance with all Federal, State and Local codes, regulations and standards.
Operate machinery to approved specifications ensuring no downtime attributed to poor operations. Perform preventive maintenance on all base building and critical system equipment.
Perform tests, rounds and analyzes data to ensure the proper functioning of equipment.
Monitor the operation and make customer approved adjustments of chilled water systems, heat exchangers, CRAC Units, HVAC, electrical systems, emergency back-up systems, hot water systems, pumps, valves, filters and other mechanical and electrical equipment. Record readings and make recommendations for adjustments where necessary to assure proper operation of equipment.
Analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required.
Prepare and maintain maintenance logs and reports. Maintain knowledge about preventive maintenance and work order software systems.
Coordinate contractor and management approvals for work orders that require the use of outside contractors. Maintain detailed logs of all work performed.
Perform all assigned work as to ensure the safety of the buildings tenants and the continuous operation of the facility.
Maintain organized building files.
May be on-call after regular scheduled hours.
May perform other duties as assigned.
This is an overnight shift from 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM.
SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Minimum of 5 years previous critical data center operationsengineering experience.
CFC Certified - Certification for handling refrigerants a plus.
Proficient computer and email skills.
Proficient with Building Automation Systems.
Must have the ability to complete required safety classes that pertain to specific job duties.
Familiarity with preventative maintenance and work order software systems.
Excellent communication skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Responsible for preventive maintenance, necessary maintenance, and repairs to the buildings mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems. Must be familiar with the location and have working knowledge of all building mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, life safety, fire protection and security systems to ensure proper operations and be able to act upon any conditions that are out of the ordinary.
Conducts periodic general preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems. This involves normal lubrication, adjustment, cleaning, replacement of consumable parts, and periodic testing of equipment. Systems include, but not limited to; air handling units (including both rooftop and built-up units), re-circulating air systems, water pumping systems, cooling plant and plumbing system components. Also conducts general building maintenance, as needed.
Be responsive to tenant requests in the areas of safety, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and environmental needs through both personal contact and work order systems.
Prepare and maintain maintenance logs and records. Familiarity with preventative maintenance and work order software systems.
Coordinate contractor, tenant and management approvals for work orders that require the use of an outside contractor. Maintains log of work order details.
Perform all assigned work so as to ensure the safety of the building's tenants and the continuous operation of the site.
Be familiar with and conform to all written operating procedures associated with site.
Assist in snow and ice clearing operations, including the coordination of plowing and salting activities by outside vendors. If applicable
Strong knowledge of Building Automation Systems / Programming.
Knowledge of UPS, ATS, Emergency Gen Sets, Electrical Diagrams and Troubleshooting is preferred.
