Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for the design, development and improvement in the manufacturing of Bowmar products for commercial and military aerospace applications. This role uses Lean Manufacturing and Lean Product Development processes and tools to drive both new product innovation and sustaining engineering initiatives with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Design and development of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical products, specifying components and materials required to meet customer specifications for operation, reliability and performance.
Manage program technical requirements by analyzing customer specifications to develop product technical proposals and bills of material for quote submittals.
Develop and refine non-recurring engineering and production labor times for product quotation.
Analyze and resolve complex product failures, troubleshoot systemic equipment issues, and define repair requirements for customer returns and in-process non-conformance conditions using advanced root cause analysis. Drive cross-functional collaboration with electrical, manufacturing, quality, supply chain teams to ensure design manufacturability and product reliability.
Develop manufacturing routings, work instructions, procedures, illustrations and standard work sheets to maximize effectivity and quality.
Lead product design process and reviews using Lean Product Development, Least Waste Way Project Planning and Value Stream Mapping.
Champion Continuous Improvement activities focusing on achieving the Highest Quality, Lowest Cost and Shortest Lead-time.
Execute annual Strategic Deployment goals for the Engineering Department ensuring organizational commitments and KPIs are met.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers on design best practices and problem-solving methodologies.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Master's degree inengineering is preferred.
10+ years of progressive, professional related experience in a manufacturing environment. (Gearing experience highly desirable)
Working knowledge of AS9100, MIL-STDs, and ITAR compliance is desirable.
Must be a team player
Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical tolerancing
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Must have the ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Will be exposed to general office and machine shop working conditions. The typical work environment has low noise and moderate temperature levels.

About The Role
The Facilities Engineer will play a key role in the maintenance and wider production departments, responsible for working across production and systems teams (IT) to implement and improve processes, identify and repair faults, and keep automation standardized. This person will play a crucial part in our Continuous Improvement and Asset Care programs across the plant, working closely with Production teams to integrate new processes and equipment to drive efficiency and safety initiatives.
Job responsibilities include:
Adhering to all rules, regulations, policies, programs and related while you exhibit and promote exceptionally high personal health & safety standards.
Establish and update LOTO, confined space, and other safety procedures including compliance with all OSHA and PPE policies.
Be proactive in maintaining plant hygiene with reference to cleaning plans, schedules and ad-hoc cleaning requirements.
Designing, building and installing projects with different aims from process improvement to integration with ERP.
Maintain and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for plant process control, monitoring and reporting.

Identify required spare parts for automation repairs and maintain a stock supply while actively participating on the Asset Care Team.

Basic HVAC troubleshooting skills that would include compressors and pumps.
Mechanical aptitude that includes understanding basic physics and mechanics (levers, pulleys, gears, pressure, friction, energy), interpreting diagrams and blueprints.
Ability to troubleshoot outcomes in mechanical scenarios with solid tool and object knowledge.
Be involved in support roles for project implementation, from a PLC and electrical point of view, carrying out I/O checks on systems and general troubleshooting.
Coordinate and drive utilities management and upkeep including steam boilers, wastewater, and other support systems.

Continuously push for precision, repeatability, and speed in all designs and build activities
Maintain performance metrics to validate design process improvements
Prints, Models, and Digital Assets
Act as company expert in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
Train team members on Triton print standards and best practices
Maintain and update all training materials related to print and model workflows
Perform model-to-print verification on all new parts and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
Initiate and manage the engineering checklist as part of APQP procedures
Expert in SolidWorks; proficient in SolidWorks Simulation and Composer
Champion precision, standardization, and repeatability in all digital assets
Lead the implementation of clean file structures and rigorous revision control practices
Recommend and spearhead new initiatives to improve efficiency and accuracy in model and print workflows
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field
3+ years in a Design Engineering role within a manufacturing environment
Proficiency with SolidWorks (CAD, Simulation, Composer), GD&T, and FEA tools
Preferred experience with welding, fixture design, and shop floor collaboration
Experience with APQP and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
