What this job involves:
The Building Engineer Specialist ensures the technical excellence and operational reliability of Microsoft facilities across assigned countries in Latin America. This role requires hands-on expertise in building systems, proactive maintenance management, and the ability to drive continuous improvement while maintaining Microsoft's high standards for facility operations. The position contributes to JLL's business objectives by delivering exceptional facility performance, ensuring 24/7 operational reliability, and supporting Microsoft's sustainability and innovation goals across the LatAm region.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Maintain comprehensive Asset Registers and conduct condition assessments for all critical building systems within assigned Microsoft facilities
Monitor and ensure 95%+ completion rate for statutory and critical asset planned maintenance work orders using Microsoft's CMMS
Oversee operation and optimization of HVAC, electrical, fire & life safety, and building automation systems across multiple facility types
Track KPIs including asset uptime, maintenance completion rates, and energy performance while ensuring SLA compliance
Provide 24/7 emergency response capability for critical system failures and lead technical incident management
Collaborate with regional engineering teams and manage vendor relationships across assigned LatAm territories
Develop 5-10 year Life Cycle Renewal plans and implement sustainability initiatives including energy and water conservation measures
Required Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in facilities management, building engineering, or technical operations with strong background in hard services
Expert knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems
Proficiency in CMMS systems and preventive maintenance program development
Expert English and intermediate Spanish language proficiency
Strong analytical skills for performance monitoring, data analysis, and troubleshooting
Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Understanding of commercial building codes, safety regulations, and compliance requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in Latin American markets and understanding of regional business practices

• Monitor and adjust all mechanical/pneumatic equipment, steam stations, control gauges, distributor panels, valves, thermostats, diffusers, and other equipment necessary to provide a comfortable environment for the buildings
• Verify field conditions and perform any necessary repairs or adjustments
• Monitor Energy Management
• Repair doors, ceilings, hand railings, and floors and other general repairs, adjustments and installations about the property
• Perform repairs to plumbing fixtures (water closets, urinals, flush valve assemblies, lavatories, etc.)
• Perform preventive maintenance duties in accordance with C&W standards, building protocol, manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices. including changing filters, cleaning coils, flushing condensers, punching tubes, greasing fan, pump and motor bearings as required, inspecting and adjusting belts, replacing motor bearings, aligning pulleys and shafts, monitor condenser, chilled, heating and secondary water chemical treatment and its associated feed equipment, clean and maintain cooling towers, and perform annual inspections and other scheduled routines as directed.
• Inspect engine room equipment, fan room equipment, cooling tower, all motors, house pumps, electric rooms, back-up generator, fire pump(s), sump pump(s), and ejector pumps. Replace lamps, light fixtures, reinstall or replace signage, verify rooms are clean and clear of obstructions and debris
• Check for properly operating emergency exit signs and lights and ensure free and clear access to emergency stairs and exits. Perform additional fire and life safety inspections as per NFPA and local jurisdiction, C&W standards, building protocol and as directed by superiors and property management
• Document and report activities to supervisor
• Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure, etc.) and customer concerns
• Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives as relates to building operations and practice safe work habits
• Complete all required C&W Safety Training as scheduled annually

Perfect Attendance:
For every six (6) months period (April 1 - September 30) and (October 1 - March 31) in which, no sick or unpaid leave is utilized, an employee shall receive ten (10) hours of annual leave credited. Employees who qualify for a consecutive Perfect Attendance benefit shall receive (14) hours of annual leave credited for each consecutive earning period.
Sick Leave:
Each employee earns (96) hours (12 days) of sick leave annually with no waiting period for use and maximum accrual of 1,440 hours. Upon separation of City employment due to resignation, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of twenty- five percent (25%) of the employee's current rate of pay at time of resignation. Upon separation of employment due to retirement, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of fifty percent (50%) of the employee's current rate of pay at the time of retirement.
Sick Leave Conversion:
After completion of one (1) year of continuous, full-time employment with the City, an employee may convert their unused portion of their first six (6) days (maximum of forty- eight (48) hours) of accrued sick leave into annual leave. Conversions are subject to the following: A minimum of 96 unused sick leave hours accrued prior to hours being converted, total eligible sick leave hours to be converted shall be reduced hour-for-hour by any sick leave hours utilized during the eligible benefit period, and conversion subject to annual leave accrual cap.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform scheduled maintenance, repairs, and inspections of building systems; address service requests, including hot/cold calls, plumbing issues, and lighting repairs.
Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and escalate issues as needed.
Replace light fixtures, filters, and other components as required.
Maintain accurate records of inspections and equipment performance.
Interact with tenants, contractors, and property managers and work closely with senior engineers and technicians to support smooth building operations and resolve tenant issues.
Assist with preventive maintenance tasks and contractor oversight.
Conduct property inspections to identify deficiencies.
Record equipment readings and ensure assigned building systems are operating according to standards.
Follow company safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE; ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC, NFC, NFPA regulations; report safety hazards; participate in safety inspections.
Provide guidance to junior Technicians when needed.
Communicate verbally and in writing with teammates, leadership team, vendors, tenants, and client employees in a professional manner, keeping the appropriate customer(s) informed/updated as needed.
Work closely with senior engineers to develop technical skills and participate in professional development programs to grow into advanced roles.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
HS Diploma or GED required
Two to three years of job related experience or commensurate certification/trade experience
CFC Certification preferred or willingness to obtain as requested; possess engineering and trade licenses required according to local, state, or national requirements
Basic working knowledge of laptop and phone applications for work order and facility operation systems as well as basic skills with Microsoft Outlook
Familiar with fire/life safety equipment/procedures
Proven track record for delivering excellent internal and external customer service; ability to successfully interact/communicate with tenants/vendors/contractors as well as teammates and leadership team
Familiarity with blueprints and code requirements
Ability to work after hours, weekends, holidays, and during emergency situations as necessary to meet the needs of the client
Possess competent knowledge of use and care of tools
Ability to read and write English in order to understand manuals and procedures, and to write reports.
Exhibit a willingness to develop familiarity with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems and gain experience with BAS operation and troubleshooting.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds; perform physically demanding tasks such as stooping, crouching, and kneeling.
