A minimum of 1-year experience operating heavy equipment in dirt or trash, required.

PHYSICAL:

The City of Spring Hill is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Operator 2 within the Public Works Department. This role requires a skilled equipment operator capable of supporting a wide range of construction and maintenance activities across the City's infrastructure. The Operator 2 position involves working with advanced machinery, assisting multiple crews in the field, and ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting directly to the Construction Superintendent.The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. * Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
* Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as mechanized broom, backhoe, man-lift, dump truck, front-end loader, hydraulic excavators, skid steers, and roller.
* Operates jackhammers, mowers, brush chippers and other small equipment.
* Works with and assists various crews in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, excavator, or front-end loader.
* Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment.
* Assists in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
* Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
* May assist in a variety of tasks in various divisions of Public Works
* Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDE AND ABILITES
* Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of standard construction equipment.
* Knowledge of the hazards of operation and of appropriate safety rules and regulations.
* Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules governing equipment operation.
* Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to laboring work.
* Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
* Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions.
* Ability to work independently in the performance of regular duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
* High School Diploma.
* Valid CDL Tennessee Driver's License
* CDL is required, or willingness to obtain CDL within 6 months.
* Stormwater Level 1 License is required, or willingness to obtain CDL within 6 months.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, Emergency Management or City Administration. Such assignments may be before, during or after an emergency/disaster.
Guaranteed 40 hours Monday through Saturday. Some Saturdays could be required due to weather.
