A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II
As a machinery operator, you spend your day working directly with light to heavy equipment. Your work typically involves coordinating the maintenance and operation of city equipment with minimal supervision. Construction and industrial maintenance projects generally fill up your day, and these involve the use of rollers, graders, backhoes, front-end loaders, forklifts, dump trucks, or bulldozers. Your job is essential to the city, and you perform maintenance on designated streets, utility systems, landfills, and including providing trash & debris collections services for residents while safely following city policies and procedures. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
When you aren't out in the city, you generally are back at the office filling out daily reports and other forms for machinery use, service requests, and inventory control. You also ensure that the equipment is safe to use by performing preventative maintenance inspections and proper minor repairs. Minimum Qualifications

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
The OSBL Field Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective operation of shipping, loading, and utility systems at the RGLNG facility. This position is field based, with a strong focus on LNG ship loading, marine operations, utility systems, and storage tank support. HOURLY: $14.98 JOB OBJECTIVES: Under general supervision of the Chief Operator. Responsible for performing routine operations of a surface water treatment plant to include completing reports and monitoring records. Several decisions are made daily which require some interpretations and good judgment. Render simple public services several times a week.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Plan, organize and operate of the treatment plants or water systems.
Must work on an assigned rotating shift schedule.
Provide a good, safe working environment.
Maintain good communication and teamwork with co-workers.
Ability to perform a wide variety of different types of tasks.
Motivate personnel to achieve maximum efficiency to operations.
Collect water samples and process testing.
Observe variations in operating conditions.
Interprets meter readings, and test results.
Make necessary operational changes, when needed, as directed.
Monitors pumps, gauges and computers of treatment plants or water systems.
Maintain communication with immediate supervisor for operation, personnel, and problem conditions.
Maintain administrative records.
Assists with the preparation of the monthly operation reports.

EQUIPMENT / MATERIALS:
Lab equipment such as turbidity meters, ph meter, jar testing machine, and related laboratory appurtenances. Hand and powered tools, lawn mowers, weed eaters.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position requires working on a rotating shift schedule, varying hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays. Exposure to noise of plant machinery and other equipment; mechanical and electrical hazards of operating equipment; fumes and odors of chemicals (chlorine, ammonia, alum, sodium chlorite) and all types of weather and temperature conditions. Work and/or walk for long periods of time on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain. Position is subject to 24-hour emergency callbacks.
EDUCATION / SKILLS REQUIRED:
Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D and must be able to pass T.C.E.Q. Class “D” license in Water within six months; however, must also acquire a Class “C License” in Surface Water within 2 years of employment. Must have sufficient knowledge in a related field to perform most normal work as assigned, with minimal supervision. Requires a valid Texas driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a valid T.C.E.Q. Class “D” or higher level of water license and experience working at a surface treatment plant.

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator Classification: Non-Exempt Department: Public Works Division: Water Distribution Supervisor: Water & Wastewater Supervisor Effective: 02/28/2022 The individual is responsible for cleaning all main sewer lines of the City of Mission. He may inspect manholes to locate stoppage, remove roots, debris, and other refuse from clogged sewer lines and drains using portable sewer cleaning machine (electric or gasoline engine driven). Fit front end of auger, using wrench, and lower guide into position in the sewer. Individual will be responsible for periodic maintenance on equipment and operate vacuum vactor truck on a regular basis. Cleans and replaces manhole covers. Notifies supervisor of damaged sections of sewer pipe. Services, adjusts, and makes; minor repairs to equipment, machines, and attachments. Reports to supervisor on areas worked and status of job or project as directed. This position is on a mandatory rotating on call list. Individual will perform other duties assigned by supervisor/department head as needed.

Must have oral and written communication skills in English to at least the 9th grade level (to include correct spelling). ? Push/pull with approximately 65 pounds of force to use wheelbarrow. ? Pick up trash or debris from grounds as scheduled or assigned. ? Repair and maintain tools and equipment. ? Lubricates equipment such as pumps and valves as scheduled or directed. ? May dig holes or drainage ditches using shovels and/or picks. ? Place safety barrier (s) around worksite as appropriate to protect the worker and the general public. ? Perform all job functions with special attention to good public relations, safety, health, and proper procedures. ? Follow a specific work schedule as directed. ?
