Essential Functions: Inspect machines and equipment daily, perform routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs as required and initiate additional repair requests from mechanics when necessary. Ensure equipment lift accessories are in good working condition. Maintain material moving equipment in good working condition. Inspect cables for wear and install or replace cables, as needed under Fleet Mechanic supervision. Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload. Inspect bundle packaging for conformance to regulations or customer requirements and remove and batch packaging tickets. Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or outrigging under cranes. Direct truck drivers backing vehicles into loading bays and cover, uncover, or secure loads for delivery. Ensure cargo is properly secured prior to transporting. Signal others to coordinate vehicle movement. Provide additional support to other crane operators as necessary, including working overtime if necessary to complete tasks. Control cranes, lifts and other equipment using standard operating procedures to ensure effective transportation of materials and safety for all personnel on site. Maintain visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly. Maintain and update DOT driver log information daily. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Required Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Skill necessary to maneuver large mobile equipment within moving traffic or limited access areas.
