Reliant Medical Group is seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and professional **Ophthalmic Assistant** to join our Eye Services team in **Worcester, MA** . This is a **full-time** , Monday-Friday, hours vary 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM position.

**Primary Responsibilities:**

+ The Ophthalmic Assistant performs a variety of duties involving basic vision testing

+ Assists physician/optometrist in the examination and treatment of patients by performing routine vision tests

+ Assists the physician/optometrist with routine clinical/diagnostic procedures and other related duties

**Required Qualifications:**

+ High school diploma or equivalent

Midwestern University ophthalmic medical technician job description

The Ophthalmic Medical Technician will assist the faculty and students in the Optometry and Ophthalmology Services within the Eye Institute as part of the Arizona College of Optometry. This position will primarily be assigned as an ophthalmic medical technician within the Ophthalmology Service to effectively organize the patient schedule, ensure compliance with all necessary documentation for patients undergoing procedures, coordinate surgical scheduling including interdepartmental coordination of the financial components. This position will assist faculty and students in preparing patients and clinical work space for procedures and maintain all necessary inventory for such procedures. Additionally, this position will support all faculty and students for other clinical care needs such as monitoring prescription refill requests and submitting medication authorizations. Each position within the College is expected to educate students where appropriate. This position will coordinate with the Clinic Manager to provide information necessary to assure smooth patient flow and coordination of care. This position reports to the Clinic Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

+ Demonstrate, instruct and oversee students on quality image capture, accurate test procedures, proper test utilization and appropriate time management when performing and ordering adjunctive tests. May include the development of reports for tracking purposes. Also may include the development and oversight of new special testing protocol.

+ Coordinate scheduling of patients in Ophthalmology service including coordination of procedure scheduling in optometry and ophthalmology specialty services. Coordinate scheduling of surgical patients with ambulatory surgical centers including all appropriate pre- and post- operative care.

+ Monitor Ophthalmology schedule and backfill any cancellation of appointments as appropriate.

+ Prepare rooms appropriately for optometry and ophthalmology procedures.

+ Prepare patients appropriately for optometry and ophthalmology procedures.

+ Provide patients with appropriate information regarding procedures and obtain all necessary information including but not limited to informed consent, pre- and post- operative instructions, surgical clearance, ordering of biotissue and ordering of intra-ocular lenses.

+ Collaborate with the MWU EI Finance department to ensure appropriate insurance information is obtained, verified, and patient responsibility is collected prior to scheduled procedures.

+ Authorize medical refills and monitor incoming prescription refill requests.

+ Maintain procedure inventory and re-order supplies as needed.

+ Effectively communicate with patients in multiple modalities including, but not limited to, in-person, telephone, and patient portal.

+ Responsible for student training with the College as assigned.

+ Guide and advise students on professional conduct and ethical behavior.

+ Follow the appropriate professional standards of care and clinic protocols.

+ Be competent in the use of the electronic health record (including patient portal and electronic medication communication).

+ Support scholarly activity of Students, Faculty, and self as assigned.

+ Maintain active participation in the University and College community through participation of university campus and outreach activities.

+ Maintain active participation in state, regional and national professional organizations

+ Assist in the identification of challenges and recommendation of solutions for the Eye Institute faculty, staff and students.

Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) is preferred.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in Electronic Health Records/Patient Portal (NextGen) and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Language Skills

Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. A person who is bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.

Reasoning Ability
