Optical engineer job description

We’re developing the future of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) products. As an Optical validation engineer, you will be a member of our Display and Optics organization, taking the responsibility for all the characterization and analysis of display optical performance and display related components to lead leading edge technologies and will work with the current and evolving ecosystem to provide differentiating capabilities to our HW platforms. You will be part of a tight-knit group of highly talented engineers at the forefront of the innovation for AR/VR products.
Responsibilities:

Support leading edge display technology development as optical validation engineer. Drive display optical performance validation and component level optical characteristics Set up the validation platform of hardware/software system and perform quantitative analysis. Lead all FA activities with destructive and non-destructive analysis both. Closely work with cross functional to define problem statement and suggest next step

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in optical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, or a similar field. In-Depth experience with optical device characterization and analysis skill Hands on experience in optical device design, development, prototyping and building optical instrument. Expert knowledge in scientific programming, signal processing and data analysis (Python, Machine learning experience is a plus)

Preferred Qualifications:

Display driving technology in-depth based on AM OLED Failure analysis with AMOLED products and process DOE performed experience

Zoox's Advanced Hardware Engineering (AHE) group is responsible for the design, development, and innovation of sensor technology and the compute platform for our autonomous vehicles. We are looking for an optical engineer with experience ranging from optical design to production to join our AHE Sensors team. This person will work with cross-functional teams to define requirements, generate designs for product and test stations, analyze sensor performance, perform component testing, and work with suppliers to meet critical specifications.

ResponsibilitiesTake input from functional requirements and derive corresponding specifications for imaging and illumination systems.Design and analyze optical systems using sequential and non-sequential optical software (Zemax, FRED, etc.) and supporting scripts.Communicate effectively with peers to derive requirements as well as suppliers to convey optical requirements and manufacturing concerns Design relevant lab tests to verify optical performance after receiving components, including test definition, equipment, and data analysis.

QualificationsBS/MS in optics4+ years of relevant experience Conceptual and hands-on experience with geometric optics, lens design and tolerancing, imaging systems, stray light, radiometry, intrinsics, optical coatings, lasers and electro-optical devices.Experience designing, integrating and/and testing optical systems with detectors, such as CMOS, CCD, APD, and Microbolometer arrays Optical component testing experience (Spectral transmission, etc.), optical system alignment and testing (EFL, MTF, stray light, etc.), and opto-electrical system modeling

Bonus QualificationsExperience designing or specifying high-volume production-optical components and systems Optical system experience with consideration for environmental variation and reliability. (STOP analysis or similar).Detector technology (CMOS, APD, Microbolometer, etc.)

Minimum qualifications:

Additional Information

(Colorado only*) Minimum full-time salary range between $109,000 - $117,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.

+ Author network operations workflows and processes.

+ Support new optical networking technology additions to Google's network.

+ Ensure and advocate for supportability and full integration with existing systems and processes.

+ Work with network design, deployment, and engineering teams to operationalize stable, scalable platforms. Create prototypes for problem solutions and extend software tools where required to minimize downtime of Google's optical and peering networks.

+ Advocate for and support the front-line support team by actively seeking out and automating recurring transactional tasks.
