JOB DETAILS Mission
We are seeking a US-Licensed Optician with American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification to join our online eyewear platform. Your primary responsibility will be to verify customer prescriptions, ensure compliance with United States optical health regulations, and provide expert oversight for the dispensing of prescription glasses online.
As part of the SmartBuyGlasses team, you'll help deliver exceptional optical accuracy, personalized recommendations, and outstanding customer experiences - all while supporting innovation in online vision care.
Responsibilities
Review and validate uploaded optical prescriptions submitted by customers (approx. 1.5 hours per day, at least 3 days per week including weekends).
Verify that all prescriptions comply with U.S. optical health regulations and professional standards.
Advise customers on lens types and technologies, including Transitions , progressive, single-vision, and specialty lenses.
Flag incomplete, expired, or questionable prescriptions and communicate follow-ups with customer support.
Provide professional oversight for lens selection, measurements (e.g. PD), and optical corrections.
Ensure that all prescription orders meet ANSI standards and guidelines for safe dispensing.
Collaborate with the Customer Service and Product teams to resolve prescription-related queries.
Stay current with optical regulations, emerging lens technologies, and best practices in the U.S. eyewear industry.
Qualifications
Registered Optical Dispenser / Licensed Optician with active American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification.
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in clinical optometry or optical dispensing (retail or online).
Strong understanding of optical prescriptions, lens design, and measurement parameters.
Excellent attention to detail, professional communication skills, and customer care orientation.
Comfortable using digital tools, email, and cloud-based systems.
Able to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred (Nice to Have)
Experience with e-commerce or tele-optometry platforms.
Familiarity with practice management software and optical lab workflows.
Experience with international prescriptions or global optical standards.
Multistate licensure or understanding of state-specific optical requirements.

Perform Pre-test screenings on patients for the doctor.
Verify patient's insurance eligibility
Be willing to be cross-trained in other areas of optometry to improve office efficiency and take on additional tasks as needed.
Qualifications
6 months of optical experience is preferred but not required
An optician license is not required.

Key Responsibilities
Assist Patients with Eyewear Selection: Guide patients in choosing eyeglass frames and lenses based on prescription, face shape, lifestyle needs, and personal style.
Learn to Interpret Prescriptions: With training, understand and apply vision prescriptions provided by Optometrists or Ophthalmologists.
Support Frame Fitting & Adjustments: Learn how to measure for and fit eyewear to ensure comfort and effectiveness.
Submit and Track Orders: Help submit orders to optical labs and ensure timely delivery.
Perform Minor Eyewear Repairs: Gain skills to make simple frame repairs and adjustments.
Educate Patients on Eyewear Care: Instruct patients on proper care and handling of their eyeglasses and contact lenses, including cleaning, storage, and usage.
Maintain Inventory and Display: Organize, restock, and manage frame inventory; ensure the optical area is clean, professional, and patient-friendly.
Insurance and Billing Support: Assist with verifying vision insurance benefits and preparing basic billing information (training provided).
Collaborate with Staff: Work closely and communicate with clinical, front desk, and billing team to ensure coordinated care and a positive patient experience.
Continued Learning: Maintain knowledge of current eyewear trends, lens technology, and product offerings to better assist patients.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
