Under the general supervision of the Director of Specialty Services-Psychiatry, the Psychiatrist will work with an interdisciplinary team to ensure that quality psychosocial services are delivered to health center patients. Psychiatrists provide direct mental health care to patients who receive primary care at LifeLong Medical Care. Psychiatrists also provide consultation to non-psychiatric providers as well as individual and group supervision to psychiatric advanced practice providers. Patients are referred for psychiatric care from all Health Center/Program locations throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of primarily psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.

Performs minimum as well as appropriate additional testing as needed based on the specific needs of each patient. Adequately documents findings. Is proficient in the use and interpretation of standard ophthalmic equipment. These include but are not limited to retinoscopy, subjective refraction, lensometry, visual fields, mobility and pupil testing, slit lamp examination, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy, fundus contact lens, tear function testing, Amsler grid, confrontation fields, etc.
Accurately interprets data from clinical exam. Makes sound clinical diagnoses. Takes appropriate actions(s) to take care of patients chief complaint(s) and ensure ocular health and visual needs are met. Clearly documents impressions and clinical action plan in the chart including referrals to other providers, long term medical management and/or optical and therapeutic prescriptions dispensed.
Uses tests and procedures as described above designed to detect and appropriately manager disorders common to the elderly such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. Actively communicates with optical, ophthalmology, support staff and fellow OD teams to optimize quality and clinical care and service to patients. Teams with optical staff and ophthalmologists to ensure most timely and convenient service given to patient when their services are needed. Job Description
Under general direction of Medical Directors at assigned sites, Senior Psychiatric Physician Specialists perform the following example and related duties
Provide direct psychiatric care and consultation
Assess, diagnose and provide psychiatric treatment for patients in an intensive care management setting that may include field work and working closely with families
Work closely with an intensive care management team using multiple therapeutic skills (which include the ability to combine behavioral, environmental and psychopharmacological modalities in treating individuals)
Monitor a caseload of clients regularly as well as provide cross coverage for other psychiatrists
Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team
Participate in clinic quality improvement activities
Serve as a liaison with community behavioral health providers and hospital based psychiatric team
May supervise a section or unit of a larger medical facility or program
May supervise other physicians and other professional personnel
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid license to practice medicine issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California*;
AND
Successful completion** of a residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association in a Psychiatric medical specialty area (i.e., Board Eligible);
AND
Possession of valid Drug Enforcement Agency registration with the United States Department of Justice (Special Condition)***.
*Applicants possessing a valid license to practice medicine issued from another state within the United States of America may apply, but if selected, the candidate will NOT be appointed/hired until they obtain a valid license to practice medicine issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California.
**Applicants enrolled in a residency program may apply, but if selected, the candidate will NOT be appointed/hired until they demonstrate successful completion of a residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association in a Psychiatric medical specialty area.

Conditions of Employment

Possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI);
Submit a completed credentialing application and/or required documentation for credentialing; AND
Possess a valid third-party billable provider certification (such as Medicare, Medi-Cal and/or private insurance) OR have submitted a completed billable provider application, along with the required documentation, in order to obtain the appropriate billable provider status.
These criteria and 'Conditions of Employment' must be met within two (2) weeks prior to the start work date to avoid delay of the appointment to the position and/or cancellation of an employment offer.
