UNC Health is seeking a clinical faculty member to join our hospitalist practice at the large regional campus in Wilmington, NC. Our regional campus is expanding and growing quickly. This multi-specialty academic practice and childrens hospital is part of an innovative partnership between UNC and Novant Health who recently also partnered with Columbus Regional Medical Center to provide specialty care to children from communities throughout southeastern and coastal NC.
This is a clinically focused position with a primary location based in a community hospital in Whiteville, NC. Candidates can also work at the regional childrens hospital at Betty Cameron Childrens Hospital in Wilmington, NC. This regional campus has a strong connection to a large academic group and quaternary childrens hospital. Candidates must be BC/BE in General Pediatrics. This is a full-time faculty position, though part-time employment will be considered if desired. The majority of clinical time at the community hospital is care at a small Level 1 new-born nursery, delivery room resuscitation coverage, emergency department pediatric consultations, and management support for patients in the ED and occasional inpatient admissions. Call can be taken within the local area outside of the hospital. The regional childrens hospital has full-spectrum hospitalist and subspecialty care that includes teaching and evaluating Family Medicine residents, UNC medical students and UNC PHM fellows. This recruitment is for three people to join seven other full-time hospitalists and five advanced practice practitioners who work with the hospitalist team in Wilmington to provide pediatric and newborn care. Depending on interest and experience, leadership opportunities are available.
Whiteville, NC has small town charm and is ~45 minutes west of Wilmington and ~ 45 miles north of several NCs beautiful beaches and Myrtle Beach. Wilmington, NC, is a charming, coastal city of ~125,000 people located in the southeastern corner of North Carolina between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. It is a popular destination because of its moderate, four-season climate, historic preservation district, annual cultural events, and numerous championship golf courses. The historic downtown offers a 1.75-mile Riverwalk and the nearby Wrightsville, Carolina and Kure Beaches are all within half-hour drives from downtown Wilming-ton.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Doctorate: MD or DO
Pediatrics residency in accredited program
Board certified/eligible General Pediatrics and/or Hospital Pediatrics
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in medical education and/or contributions to academic scholarship preferred.

Examination of eyes and the visual system to diagnose and treat eye diseases, injuries, and all vision, accommodative, and binocular disorders
Pre and post-operative assessment to include refractive surgery
Evaluation of color vision and perception vision therapy
Assessment, fitting, and prescribing of eyeglasses and contact lenses
Prescription and use of diagnostic and therapeutic medications and treatment for pain
Superficial ocular foreign body removal and epilation
Testing and analysis of computerized diagnostic tests, laboratory tests, and imaging of
the eye and associated structures related to or affecting the eyes and/or visual system.
Optometrists also co-manage conditions that affect the ocular health and vision of their patients
or refer them to secondary/tertiary levels of care
Perform basic visual acuity tests.
Measure and record distance and near vision; perform color testing and pinhole vision.
Perform Contrast Sensitivity testing.
Perform Lensometry.
Perform autorefraction and autokeratometry.
Perform basic ocular motility tests.
Perform automated visual field testing.
Perform ophthalmic fundus photography.
Perform and assess Corneal topography and Pentacam scans.
Assist during surgery in the main and local operating rooms
Perform Glare Testing.

Your Role:
Conduct comprehensive eye exams using innovative technology, both onsite and through our patented hybrid platform.
Diagnose ocular conditions and create personalized treatment plans.
Educate patients on preventative eye care, including the importance of:

Proper contact lens care and wearing current prescription glasses
Maintain all necessary state licensure and malpractice insurance.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to evaluate visual acuity, ocular health, and systemic implications affecting vision.

Provide preventive and therapeutic eye care, including prescribing corrective lenses, contact lenses, and ocular medications.
Perform pre- and post-operative evaluations for refractive and other ophthalmologic procedures.
Conduct color vision, contrast sensitivity, and binocular vision assessments.
Utilize advanced diagnostic tools such as fundus photography, corneal topography, Pentacam scans, autorefraction, and visual field testing.
Remove superficial ocular foreign bodies and perform epilation when clinically indicated.
Provide patient education on eye health, safety, and vision conservation, promoting preventive practices and adherence to treatment plans.
Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other specialists for co-management or referral of complex ocular and systemic conditions.
Participate in clinical training, wellness initiatives, and vision research activities as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
