The Medical Assistant II (MAII) plays a key role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related neurodevelopmental differences. This role requires specialized skills in supporting sensory needs, facilitating effective communication, and creating a welcoming environment for patients and families. The MA assists with clinical procedures, documentation, and care coordination while working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure each child's visit is as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Responsibilities:
1. Greet and room patients in a calm, supportive manner.
2. Obtain and document vital signs, growth measurements, and relevant medical history using strategies that accommodate sensory sensitivities and communication preferences.
3. Prepare patients for procedures and exams with clear, developmentally appropriate explanations, visual supports, or social stories when applicable.
4. Provide sensory tools or accommodations (e.g., fidget items, dimmed lights) to help patients self-regulate during visits.
5. Support behavioral and emotional needs during care, using de-escalation techniques and collaborating with families to apply known calming strategies.
6. Collects data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients
7. Administer medications, vaccines, and screenings per provider orders, with sensitivity to sensory and behavioral needs.
8. Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens in accordance with policy and procedure
9. Accurate and timely documentation of care within EMR, noting preferred communication methods, triggers, and accommodations used during the visit.
10. Performs clinical duties that are department specific such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and any other procedures
11. Performs routine task and general office duties such as faxing, copying, filing, etc. as needed
12. Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms
13. Performs point-of-service activities such as appointment scheduling, visit preparation, co-payment collection and patient tracking as needed
14. Actively participates in departmental process improvement projects
15. Follows safety policies and procedures in the delivery of care to assure a safe environment for patients, families, and other staff members

Technical Expertise
1. Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology is required.
2. Experience working in healthcare environment is preferred.
3. Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
4. Experience working in electronic medical record (i.e., EPIC) or similar software is preferred.
5. Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program.
6. Demonstrated experience or strong interest in working with children with autism or other developmental disabilities.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to varied developmental and sensory needs.

Responsibilities
Reads and documents in all communication logs and informs the nurse when needed
Effectively completes incident reports per company policy
Accurately dispenses, passes medications & documents in the MAR, absent of errors
Accurately assists residents with self-administration of medications
Accurately counts narcotics in accordance with company policy
Honors personhood by reading and knowing the Residents' Life Stories
Actively involved in the life enrichment program
Is compliant with company training requirements
Demonstrates a high level of safety and privacy of resident information in all work practices
Champions “follow-through” on all delegated tasks from the Director of Wellness
Assists residents in accordance with their individual service (care) plans to include: personal care and activities of daily living (eating, drinking, walking, and transferring) and use of adaptive equipment (hearing aids, glasses, and dentures)

Active CMA Certification needed

Apex Skin is a physician-led and rapidly growing dermatology practice committed to delivering exceptional patient experiences. We are seeking a talented and motivated Medical Assistant to support our providers with both clinical and administrative tasks. This role includes rooming patients, assisting with dermatologic procedures, documenting in the EMR as a clinical scribe, supporting patient education, and performing front office duties as needed. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills, clinical accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday [40 hours per week]
Part-time, [24 hours per week - three (3), eight-hour days]
One Saturday per month, as needed for patient scheduling
Daytime clinical hours with occasional variations based on provider or patient needs.
Essential Functions
Escort patients to exam rooms, obtain vital signs, collect short histories, and update medication lists
Prepare exam rooms based on scheduled procedures and anticipate provider needs.
Assist providers with biopsies, excisions, surgical procedures, and other dermatologic treatments
Scribe for providers during patient visits, accurately documenting clinical notes, treatments, diagnoses, and patient instructions directly into the EMR in real time.
Maintain and update patient records, charts, and EMR documentation to meet compliance standards
Educate patients regarding provider instructions, treatment plans, post-procedure care, and medication usage
Monitor and complete lab documentation, biopsy/culture logs, telephone encounters, and task queues in the EMR
Handle clinical phone calls, follow up on biopsy results, and communicate with patients under provider direction
Perform autoclave procedures, maintain sterility standards, and complete quality control checks
Complete assigned administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, scanning documents, answering phones, and processing prior authorizations
Travel to nearby Apex Skin locations as needed to support clinical operations.

Qualifications
