1. Read machine assembly drawings and electrical schematics to identify machine malfunctions in mechanical and electrical systems 2. Adjust mechanical assemblies and control systems to correct machine malfunctions 3. Design and fabricate metal product for production equipment. 4. Work with maintenance department managers to analyze machine failures and develop plans to reduce downtime 5. Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems. 6. Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devices. 7. Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear. 8. Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs. 9. Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery. 10. Assist in the installation new and used equipment as instructed by manager 11. Upgrade existing equipment as instructed by manager 12. Help in writing and revising PM checklist and procedures for assigned equipment 13. Training of junior level mechanics. 14. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Facilities Maintenance Engineer at St. Charles Health System (St. Charles Health System) provides for the safety and comfort of patients, visitors, and employees by keeping the facility in peak operational condition. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Assists the supervisor in the completion of recognized tasks. Keeps current with new technologies in our industry. Provides for the safety and comfort of the occupants of the facility. Maintains all equipment assigned to the department. Assists with special projects, as needed. Operates the hospital's utility, energy, and life safety systems, which consist of water tube and fire tube boilers for steam and/or hot water generation, auxiliary machinery and steam systems, electric centrifugal chillers and chilled water distribution systems, the hospital's air handlers and fan systems, electrical systems, compressed air and medical gas/vacuum systems, emergency power generation and distribution systems, water and sewer systems, automated building management system, the fire alarm systems and all other facilities-related equipment and systems. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on all facilities-related equipment, systems, and infra-structure, to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency at all times. Troubleshoots and corrects any problems discovered, calls in and coordinates work of specialized contractors to correct problems outside the abilities of plant engineering. Writes work orders and trouble calls in the plant operations computerized maintenance management system. Closes out all PM's, WO's, and TC's when jobs are completed. Responds to fire alarms and code calls in accordance with established work instructions, performs security functions as needed. Assists with training of other hospital caregivers in security, life safety and utility procedures. Assists with snow removal when adverse conditions dictate. Performs chemical testing, analysis, and treatment on the hospital's boilers and steam systems, chilled water, tower water, condensate, and closed loop systems. Adjusts chemical usage and blowdowns. Performs customer-initiated work requests such as assembling components, installing furniture, responding to hot/cold calls, installing new equipment, assisting with project-related work, repairing/installing molding and trim, assists with set-ups and removal of equipment, move office furniture. Plumbing license or refrigeration experience. EXPERIENCE: Required: Two or more years of facilities and plant operations education and experience. Six months or more of electrical, electronic, plumbing, and/or refrigeration work experience required or a combination of education and similar relevant experience. Must be able to interpret blueprint drawings, diagrams, and schematics. PC computer experience. Preferred: One or more years of hospital maintenance experience is preferred. Two years of experience operating boilers of 100 psi or above and chiller plants preferred. Military Facilities/Engineering Plant-related training and experience highly preferred. Electrical license considered a plus. Experience with power generation equipment, preferably emergency diesel gen sets and emergency electrical feeders. Medical Gas certification preferred. Experience with hospital bed repairs preferred. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
