Function/Duties of Position
Imaging:
Provides quality real time 2D, 3D, M Mode and Doppler applications to acquire images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of equipment.
Documents and demonstrates knowledge and skill to evaluate normal /abnormal anatomy and any related pathologies for presentation to Radiologist.
Demonstrates knowledge and skill in ultrasound physics.
Exercises responsible judgment in recognizing and reporting significant situations relating to patient care.
Performs portable procedures when needed.
Prepares and instructs the patient for the diagnostic study using age appropriate communication skills.
Optimizes each image during the examination to obtain the highest quality study with the least discomfort to the patient.
Must be able to perform all ranges of exams after completion of technical competencies.
Assists the physician in invasive and/or specialized procedures, such as amniocentesis, needle biopsy, localizations, and tumor masses, as directed.
Continues to stay current in regards to new US technology hardware and software upgrades.
Documentation:
Verifies complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers.
Verifies and initials orders in patient chart, Responsible for correctly identify patients by complying with Imaging dept. Patient Identification Policy.
Labels images completely with patient demographics, position or other required documentation.
Follows through with all aspects of scanning duties in order to provide efficient and timely completion of examinations with correct data entry, begin and complete with correct billing and verification that images are in PACS.

Required Qualifications
Graduate of an approved diagnostic medical sonography course that meets current qualifications to apply for and take ARDMS board examinations upon hire.
Candidates must be American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) registered in OB/GYN and Abdomen within 12 months of hire date.
Must be licensed by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging.
Must have current approved CPR Card.
Will consider new student graduates.

Must have good judgment, decision making and communication skills.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Under the direction of a radiologist, the Ultrasonographer performs diagnostic medical ultrasound examinations accurately, independently, and efficiently.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares patient and independently performs Ultrasound exams & procedures, including abdomen, OB/GYN, small parts, and intra-operative

- Transfers and positions patient safely and properly for examination, observes and monitors patient's condition and reactions to exam
- Produces technically acceptable Ultrasound exams in accordance with departmental procedures, selects proper technical factors, reviews and evaluates Ultrasound images to determine that they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes and assesses need for further views
- Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and processes per department policies
- Prepares preliminary diagnosis / report for radiologist, including anatomic and physiological data and diagnostic observations, accurately inputs exam orders, patient data, patient charges, and prepares reports
- Answers phones; assists in other areas, such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport
- Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready, inventories supplies and linens, restocks rooms as needed
- Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc

Completion of diagnostic ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)

Along with our team of expert imaging technologists, they are committed to diagnosing illnesses and injuries quickly and effectively so treatment can begin. We take time and attention with each patient to explain procedures, so they'll know what to expect every step of the way. Radiology Services at UW Medical Center - Northwest offers routine radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.
**POSITION HIGHLIGHTS**
Under the direction of a radiologist, the Ultrasonographer performs diagnostic medical ultrasound examinations accurately, independently, and efficiently.
**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Prepares patient and independently performs Ultrasound exams & procedures, including abdomen, OB/GYN, small parts, and intra-operative
- Assists Radiologist with invasive procedures, and vascular exams, utilizes 2-D, real time, M-Mode, Pulsed Doppler, and color flow to maximize diagnostic information
- Evaluates and assesses the patient's condition based upon information from the referring physician, medical records, and patient interview; selects appropriate instrumentation for the exam
- Assists physicians with special, interventional radiological procedures, performs portable procedures including bedside, operating room, emergency room and other areas outside the Ultrasound suite
- Transfers and positions patient safely and properly for examination, observes and monitors patient's condition and reactions to exam
- Produces technically acceptable Ultrasound exams in accordance with departmental procedures, selects proper technical factors, reviews and evaluates Ultrasound images to determine that they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes and assesses need for further views
- Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and processes per department policies
- Prepares preliminary diagnosis / report for radiologist, including anatomic and physiological data and diagnostic observations, accurately inputs exam orders, patient data, patient charges, and prepares reports
- Answers phones; assists in other areas, such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport
- Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready, inventories supplies and linens, restocks rooms as needed
- Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc
- Coordinates equipment repairs and troubleshoots supply problems
**REQUIREMENTS**
Completion of diagnostic ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
AND Registered in abdominal and obstetrical ultrasound OR experience equivalent to criteria for eligibility for registration in abdominal and obstetrical ultrasound by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).

Radiology at UWMC-Northwest is equipped with the advanced diagnostic imaging technology available. Our board-certified radiologists have specialty training in cardiac imaging, neuroimaging, musculoskeletal, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and body and breast imaging. Along with our team of expert imaging technologists, they are committed to diagnosing illnesses and injuries quickly and effectively so treatment can begin. We take time and attention with each patient to explain procedures, so they'll know what to expect every step of the way. Radiology Services at UW Medical Center - Northwest offers routine radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.
**POSITION HIGHLIGHTS**
Under the direction of a radiologist, the Ultrasonographer performs diagnostic medical ultrasound examinations accurately, independently, and efficiently.
**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Prepares patient and independently performs Ultrasound exams & procedures, including abdomen, OB/GYN, small parts, and intra-operative
- Assists Radiologist with invasive procedures, and vascular exams, utilizes 2-D, real time, M-Mode, Pulsed Doppler, and color flow to maximize diagnostic information
- Evaluates and assesses the patient's condition based upon information from the referring physician, medical records, and patient interview; selects appropriate instrumentation for the exam
- Assists physicians with special, interventional radiological procedures, performs portable procedures including bedside, operating room, emergency room and other areas outside the Ultrasound suite
- Transfers and positions patient safely and properly for examination, observes and monitors patient's condition and reactions to exam
- Produces technically acceptable Ultrasound exams in accordance with departmental procedures, selects proper technical factors, reviews and evaluates Ultrasound images to determine that they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes and assesses need for further views
- Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and processes per department policies
- Prepares preliminary diagnosis / report for radiologist, including anatomic and physiological data and diagnostic observations, accurately inputs exam orders, patient data, patient charges, and prepares reports
- Answers phones; assists in other areas, such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport
- Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready, inventories supplies and linens, restocks rooms as needed
- Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc
- Coordinates equipment repairs and troubleshoots supply problems
**REQUIREMENTS**
Completion of diagnostic ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
AND Registered in abdominal and obstetrical ultrasound OR experience equivalent to criteria for eligibility for registration in abdominal and obstetrical ultrasound by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).

**UW Medical Center - Montlake - VASCULAR DIAGNOSTICS** has an outstanding opportunity for a **VASCULAR SONOGRAPHER** . **WORK SCHEDULE** + PER DIEM + Day Shift with potential for call **DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION** The VASCULAR SONOGRAPHER will be part of the innovative team in the D. E. Strandness Jr. Vascular Laboratory at the University of Washington. Under general direction, the Vascular Sonographer independently performs vascular tests from all 5 major testing areas (extracranial carotid, intracranial cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, peripheral venous, and visceral vascular). These examinations range from standard tests such as carotid duplex for internal carotid stenosis and venous duplex for acute deep vein thrombosis to specialized protocols developed for our specific patient population and referring providers. For example, we have developed a "Sprint Protocol" for athletes with iliac artery endofibrosis and have created an ultrasound protocol for diagnosis of pelvic venous disorders.
Our staff are expected to adapt established testing protocols for individual patients based on the history and preliminary findings in order to document the information necessary to accurately determine the diagnosis. The Vascular Sonographer also supports Vascular Surgery in the operating room when requested for intraoperative monitoring and assessment. Finally, the Vascular Sonographer supports the educational mission of the D. E. Strandness Jr. Vascular Laboratory by teaching residents and fellows in various University of Washington training programs and sonography students from several CAAHEP-accredited diagnostic medical sonography programs, and by contributing to research projects.
**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Perform high level vascular tests, independent of direct physician supervision.
+ Use a variety of testing instrumentation.
+ Adapt examinations to answer clinical questions.
+ Prepare preliminary reports based on examination findings.
+ Maintain examination facilities and equipment in accordance with our safety policy.
+ Utilize multiple vascular testing instruments and identify when maintenance issues occur.
+ Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information to ensure the appropriate test is being performed.
+ Ensure indications are appropriate for the examination ordered.
+ Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand and explain the test that will be performed.
+ Perform examinations and apply criteria according to the laboratory protocols.
+ Provide thorough documentation according to the examination protocol and any additional images necessary to support interpretation.
+ Alert the referring provider or vascular surgery team of critical positive examination results.
+ Contribute to quality assurance processes.
+ Assist with training of medical and surgical residents and sonography students.
+ Participate in research activities.
+ Share in call rotation and coverage of the satellite vascular laboratory.
**REQUIREMENTS**
Completion of a training program accredited by the American Medical Association - Committee on Allied Health Education (AMA-CAHEA) for vascular ultrasound
AND
Possess current registration as a Registered Vascular Technologist through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

The Doernbecher Pediatric and Fetal Echocardiography Lab is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to join our team. As the only fetal, pediatric thoracic and pediatric transesophageal IAC/ICAEL certified lab in the State of Oregon, the Doernbecher Echocardiography Lab serves Doernbecher Children's Hospital as well as outreach sites located in Oregon.
Candidates must be able to perform the required duties listed below at a highly technical level requiring limited or no supervision. The sonographer will maintain a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated. Applicant must work independently to produce high quality imaging on neonatal to adult age patients using a variety of non-invasive modalities including - Transthoracic, 3D, and assist with transesophageal echocardiography.
This lab supports many strategic Programs with Doernbecher Children's Hospital including Pediatric Cardiology Ambulatory, Cardio-thoracic surgery, NICU, PICU, Fetal Therapy/Perinatology, Clinical Outreach as well as educational and research missions.
This position will be based in Portland, OR on a variable basis. Coverage in outreach clinic locations is required. This position will be required to cover over-night call assignments multiple times per month including weekends.
Must be experienced and registered in pediatric echocardiography.
Function/Duties of Position
Echo Procedures:
Determines and instructs patient in proper preparation for exam; explains examination process and procedure to patient; positions patient for each examination to maximize effectiveness of image and minimize patient discomfort; adjusts equipment controls; modifies each study during the exam to demonstrate the anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics and/or pathology accurately; determines need for additional views depending on patient variables or demonstrated pathology; manipulates transthoracic transducer by hand over diagnostic area in order to image cardiac structures and visualize hemodynamic flow patterns as necessary; selects appropriate scan based on significant functional and/or anatomical pathology; records representative images for review by Cardiologist.
Performs transthoracic echocardiography on pediatric patients to include the evaluation of complex congenital heart lesions, and pre/post-operative cardiac assessment; to include premature and micro-premature infants on high frequency ventilators.
Provides transthoracic echocardiography on outreach pediatric patients throughout Oregon.
During certain invasive procedures, gives physician measurements, estimations, angles, and guidance. (These invasive procedures may include but not limited to; pericardial centesis, balloon atrial septostomy, blade atrial septostomy, balloon valvuloplasty.
Assists physician in the application of transesophageal and/or intra vascular ultrasound in the cardiac catheterization laboratory or surgical suites.
Records and Reports:
Schedules patients from phone or written physicians' request; obtains clinical data from patient chart or referring physician; arranges digital images of exam findings in logical sequence for patient's permanent medical record; maintains patient files (e.g., records patient identification and corresponding examination procedures); verbally reports summary of patient's medical history and pertinent exam findings to Cardiologist.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Technology or Ultrasound from an approved and accredited program; OR
Equivalent combination of education, formal training and work experience.
Board Certification or eligibility for certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer. Sonographer license issued by Oregon Board of Medical Imaging. For positions on adult units, certification from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) will be accepted in lieu of ARDMS certification. Active registration must be maintained with continuing medical education units (CME's) on an ongoing basis.
BLS Certification
Preferred Qualifications
Two years experience in pediatric echocardiography with patients with complex congenital heart disease. Fetal experience is a bonus.
Clinical experience with patients with complex congenital heart disease in a variety of settings including ambulatory, NICU/PICU, surgical suites and catheterization laboratory.

Working Conditions:
Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm, position based at Doernbecher Children's Hospital Clinic but some required travel to other offsite locations within the State of Oregon. Constant exposure to usual hospital environmental conditions including possible exposure to blood and body fluids for which staff is provided education and protective equipment to minimize risk.
