Kenyon College Teacher-Scholar Science Fellowship
Kenyon College 4.2
Organic gardening teacher job in Ohio
Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, where academic excellence goes hand in hand with a strong sense of community, invites applications for a Teacher-Scholar Fellowship in the sciences, beginning July 1st 2026.
One of the most significant challenges confronting small liberal arts colleges in the United States today is ensuring that the faculty is representative of the population of the United States in all its dimensions. Such a faculty benefits students, faculty and staff alike by enriching the nature of the education experience for all. We recognize, though, that many young scholars frequently choose to pursue their careers as teachers and scholars at research universities rather than at small liberal arts colleges.
In order to encourage such scholars to consider college rather than university teaching, Kenyon College offers the Kenyon College Teacher-Scholar Fellowship in the sciences. The program is for scholars who have recently completed their doctoral work (no more than five years past the PhD graduation date) and are at the postdoctoral level. We hope the experience of teaching, researching, and living for two years at Kenyon will encourage these Teacher-Scholars to consider a liberal arts college as a place to begin their careers as teachers and scholars. Fellowships will be awarded in: Biology, Neuroscience, Psychology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics as well as in interdisciplinary work that bridges departments (e.g., Biochemistry, Environmental Science).
Working closely with an experienced faculty mentor, the Teacher-Scholar will gain experience in course design, teaching, development of inclusive pedagogy, and student mentoring both in the classroom and in the laboratory. Teacher-Scholars are expected to teach six courses over two years, the specific courses and number per semester to be determined by the scholar in consultation with the mentor and home department. Teacher-Scholars are expected to remain actively engaged in research and will have the opportunity to maintain/develop an independent research program utilizing the resources available in the host department and the mentor's laboratory. While in residence, Teacher-Scholars are expected to offer at least one collegewide lecture or departmental seminar on their research specialty and participate in the intellectual life of the home department as well as in the broader intellectual and cultural life of the college. The Teacher-Scholar will be provided an office, a networked computer, and the support services of the departmental administrative assistant.
Eligibility to apply for the Kenyon College Teacher-Scholar Fellowship is limited to those meeting all of the following four criteria who are citizens or nationals of the United States or otherwise "protected individuals" as defined in 8 USC 1324b(a)(3)(B).
Members of groups underrepresented in their fields (whatever their backgrounds) including men in fields that attract mostly women, or women in fields that attract mostly men; and persons who are first-generation college attendees.
Individuals who have completed a research-based Ph.D. program in one of the following fields: Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Neuroscience, or related fields.
Individuals who aspire to a teaching and research career in the sciences.
Persons who have earned a doctoral degree in a relevant field.
Although holders of F-1 visas are not eligible for this fellowship, applicants do not need to be citizens of the United States.
To apply, candidates should visit the online application site found at ************************** A complete application will be composed of 1) a cover letter discussing the applicant's interest in a teaching/research career and eligibility for the fellowship; 2) a Curriculum Vitae; 3) a ~2-page statement of the applicant's research and scholarship clearly indicating the field or discipline; and 4) contact information for three professional references. Unofficial graduate transcripts will be requested of candidates who advance to the interview stage. All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon's employment website: ************************** Review of applications will begin on December 15th, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.
Compensation and Benefits
Salaries at Kenyon are competitive and are commensurate with experience. There are a number of faculty development opportunities (e.g. travel, research funds, etc.) for which appointees are eligible.
In addition to an attractive salary, Kenyon offers benefits for employees and their family members. Children of employees are eligible for 100% tuition waivers at Kenyon, and through the Great Lakes Colleges Association, children of employees are eligible for 85% tuition waivers at fifteen other of the nation's finest liberal arts colleges.
We also offer health and dental insurance, TIAA retirement, and many other benefits, including provisions for a spouse, families, and domestic partners. Details about benefits as well as conditions of employment are described more fully in our Faculty Handbook.
Kenyon is a great place to live and work. To discover why it should be your next home, click here.
Kenyon College is an equal opportunity employer, and we welcome applications from all qualified individuals. It is the College's policy to evaluate qualified applicants without regard to race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, physical and/or mental disability, age, religion, medical condition, veteran status, marital status, or any other characteristic protected by institutional policy or state, local, or federal law.
