Oriana House company history timeline

1981

Since 1981, Oriana House has worked to develop a full array of corrections and behavioral health services that address the changing needs of the community.

1981 The Driver Intervention Program began in 1981 out of the YWCA building in downtown Akron.

1987

1987 The Work Release Program and Halfway House for women opened on East Glenwood Avenue in Akron.

1990

1990 The Day Reporting Program was established for Summit County to serve as a sentencing alternative for offenders who do not need a residential setting.

1992

1992 The Glenwood Jail expanded its operation as a 180-day minimum security jail facility.

1995

1995 The Terrence Mann Residential Center opened in Akron as a 100-bed work release and halfway house facility.

1996

1996 Oriana House�s administrative offices moved to 885 East Buchtel Avenue in Akron.

1997

1997 The Specialized Housing and Rehabilitation Program (SHARP) was developed in Summit County to provide a link between the mental health system and the criminal justice system.

1998

1998 The Discretionary Rehabilitation Program was developed as a selective intervention and diversion program for first time misdemeanant offenders from Akron Municipal Court.

1999

1999 The CROSSWAEH CBCF (for men) opened in Seneca County to serve the counties of Crawford, Richland, Ottawa, Seneca, Sandusky, Wyandot, Erie, Ashland, and Huron.

2000

Ignition Interlock and Summit Link begin. (Ignition Interlock disbanded in 2000 due to lack of referrals)

2000 The Residential Treatment Program was established to provide residential treatment for offenders who have not been successful with other shorter term chemical dependency treatment options.

2001

2001 The Fannie M. Lewis Community Corrections and Treatment Center in Cleveland opened as a Halfway House.

2002

2002 Felony Drug Court was established in Summit County Court of Common Pleas.

2004

2004 Secure Controlled Remote Access Monitor (SCRAM) alcohol monitoring device/program started in Akron and northwest Ohio.

2005

The Juvenile Halfway House opened. (Closed in 2005 due to lack of funding.)

2006

2006 Summit County Reentry Court was established.

2007

2007 CROSSWAEH CBCF for women opened in Seneca County.

2008

2008 The Criminal Non Support Program began in Summit County for parents not meeting their child support obligations.

2009

Oriana House began managing Midtown Apartments in Akron to provide housing for homeless people (Shuttered in 2009.)

2010

2010 North Star Neighborhood Reentry Resource Center opened in Cleveland�s Hough neighborhood to help individuals who have been involved in the criminal justice system navigate through barriers to become law abiding, contributing members of their families and communities.

2012

2012 Oriana House began operating the Alternative Environment Program to divert clients with developmental disabilities from the Summit County Jail.

2013

The Cleveland Transition Center opens. (Closed in 2013 due to lack of funding.)

2014

2014 Rigel Recovery Services opened in Summit and Seneca counties to provide outpatient substance abuse treatment services to the public.

2015

2015 In Tiffin, offices for non-residential programs moved to 65 St Francis Avenue.

2017

2017 Quick Response Teams formed in Summit County to provide an in-person visit to those who overdose.

2018

Oriana House began operating Day Programming Services in Cuyahoga County. (Funding for this program ended in 2018.)

2019

NO-BARS opens in Port Clinton (Closed in 2019.)

2020

The Lake Erie Community Corrections Center opens as a halfway house in Sandusky. (Shuttered in 2020 due to lack of referrals.)

2020 A Quick Response Team is formed in Huron County as a result of collaboration between law enforcement; addiction and mental health treatment providers, including Oriana House; Certified Peer Supporters; and the Huron County Board of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

2021

2021 The Cuyahoga County Diversion Center opened in Cleveland as an alternative to incarceration for people living with mental illness and/or addiction who have an interaction with law enforcement regarding a low-level offense.
