The long-term goals of the Nguyen lab are to evaluate novel radiofrequency (RF) ablation strategies, catheter designs to improve procedural efficacy and safety outcomes, and molecular targets to enhance RF ablation of cardiac arrhythmias, particularly atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. We have published studies on how metallic and nonmetallic nanoparticles may be utilized to facilitate therapeutic ablation applications in arrhythmia management. We have evaluated multiple ablation catheter designs as well as ablation strategies to improve safety and maximize RF delivery during ablation. We have in vivo and ex vivo animal models of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, including rodent, bovine, and porcine models to test new technologies, techniques, and products.
The LSRP will perform day-to-day experiments under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen, supporting basic histological and molecular studies, ablation studies, and animal models to accomplish the goals of the lab. This work will require the maintenance of the lab and electrophysiology systems. S/he will be expected to collect, analyze, and present research data to the research group and make original scientific contributions to the research field. The LSRP may be expected to provide technical and scientific advice to other research personnel in lab.
