Lead analyses using population data for game animals, including but not limited to information on population size and trend, herd ratios, distribution, movement and migration patterns, field checks of harvested animals, and mortality factors. Lead the coordination and development of hunting seasons designed to move animal populations toward established objectives, including the understanding and incorporation of public feedback. Collect data for disease surveillance and population monitoring for non-game, protected, and SGCN species. * Develop initial comments and recommendations for regional wildlife environmental reviews regarding projects from county governments, state and federal agencies, and private landowners. Project recommendations are developed to minimize impacts to wildlife populations by recommending alternatives and mitigation. * Represent the WGFD at public meetings. Routinely communicate with hunters. * Respond to and appropriately handle injured and nuisance wildlife calls, which may require euthanasia of wildlife. Use chemical and mechanical immobilization equipment and techniques when necessary and appropriate. Use firearms to euthanize wildlife. * Identify specific wildlife-related research needs for the assigned region. Develop project proposals, including methods and budgets, coordinate with researchers, write proposals to acquire funds, provide input and guidance to project personnel, collect data, write, review, and edit annual and final project reports. * Assist in coordinating and conducting habitat management by evaluating wildlife habitat conditions, collecting data, and recommending improvements or projects to enhance wildlife habitat. * Participate in WGFD-assigned species working groups and committee assignments, and assist with the development of regional planning efforts designed to meet the future needs of wildlife and the public. This includes participation in the regional implementation of the Wyoming Elk Feedgrounds Management Plan. * Document and report daily activities, write annual and project reports, ensures budget and grant expenditures are within allocated amounts and in accordance with fiscal procedures. Qualifications PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference may be given to applicants with a Master's degree in wildlife management, wildlife habitat, ecology, or a related field, plus two years of professional work experience in wildlife management, wildlife habitat, ecology, or a related field. Description of Work North Carolina's Natural Heritage Program is recruiting 3 field Botanists/Ecologists to conduct assessments of hurricane damage to species populations and subsequent monitoring within Special Interest Areas (SIAs) and other high quality natural areas in the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests. Biologists will survey and document the locations and status of natural communities and rare and endemic plants identified in the Forest Plan's Species of Conservation Concern List, U.S. Endangered Species, and NCNHP Rare Plant Lists. These assessments will help inform recommendations for habitat restoration and management actions. Work priorities include: (1) Design and implement field studies to identify, evaluate, and document occurrences of exemplary natural communities and rare species habitats; (2) Evaluate and compile biological resource data about the extent, rarity, and occurrences of the state's rare plant species and natural communities; (3) Participate in the development of the Natural Heritage Program biological inventory database; (4) Provide information to the US Forest Service, collaborators, and stakeholders regarding the management and protection of natural communities and rare habitats; and (5) Work with the US Forest Service to secure natural area protection and management. This work requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team. Role description: Arcadis is seeking a mid-level Ecologist to join our Enviro Socio Permitting team in Ohio to support our expanding business across a range of sectors, including oil and gas, renewable energies, and linear utilities. The successful candidate will lead field wetland delineations, field biology/habitat assessments, and general environmental assessments; and assist with reporting, agency coordination, and permit compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of stream/wetland determination/delineation methods, including the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) Ohio Rapid Assessment Method for Wetlands (ORAM), Headwater Habitat Evaluation Index (HHEI) and Qualitative Habitat Evaluation Index (QHEI); have experience in evaluating ecological systems/natural resources; and have experience supporting Clean Water Act permitting. The position will require a candidate to work collaboratively with a diverse team and have the capacity to balance varying priorities, including field work. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of project and client teams. There will also be the need to lead wetland and waterbody delineation surveys and site reviews with regulatory agencies and clients, with associated periodic travel (approximately 50%). Role accountabilities: As a mid-level Ecologist, you will apply your technical knowledge to provide high quality deliverables to support planning and permitting for oil and gas, linear utilities, and renewable energy clients. You will be responsible for leading wetland and stream delineations, flora inventories, and other environmental surveys, and will collect field data using handheld global positioning system units and tablets utilizing Fulcrum, FieldMaps, Survey 123 for ArcGIS, or similar programs. This will require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours. This role will require the ability to travel up to 50%, including overnight travel. You will also be tasked with preparing technical reports, work plans, and other environmental documents to support environmental permitting, and you will prepare regulatory permit applications (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Clean Water Act Section 404 permit applications and Section 401 Water Quality Certification applications, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 408 review requests, and Section 402 National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit applications). You will also lead agency consultations for threatened and endangered species and manage desktop environmental assessments to identify potential permitting requirements. In this role, you will use your excellent technical writing and communications skills to provide support to project teams and will be involved in mentoring junior staff. You will also assist with the growth of new and existing client relationships through delivery of quality work and data. Qualifications & Experience: Required qualifications for the role that should be highlighted and included in your resume: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or similar environmental discipline 4+ years of experience in environmental planning and permitting in the Midwest and Eastern United States, including experience conducting and leading wetland delineations using the U.S Army Corps of Engineers Midwest, Eastern Mountains and Piedmont, and Northcentral and Northeast Regional Supplements A minimum of one-year leading wetland delineation field teams in Ohio Experience in conducting wetland and waterbody assessments in Ohio, using the OEPA ORAM, HHEI, and QHEI Experience using GPS field technology Experience developing permit applications, including Clean Water Act Section 404 permits and Section 401 Water Quality Certifications, and completing threatened and endangered species consultations Why Arcadis?
