Supervision of Ultrasound staff
Coordinates the work assigned to each area and monitors the work of the staff: Develops and assigns daily schedule of assigned personnel and ensures accurate record keeping.
Observes and assists technical and ancillary staff in the performance of job duties, including providing suggestions for improved work efficiency and quality.
Performs preparation of control and quality control and assessment tasks (QA/QC).
Ensures the department delivers quality services, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards, to support operational excellence.
Serves as the Clinical Coordinator for Ultrasound students.
Evaluation and Implementation of Appropriate Care
After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient's abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan.
Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
Evaluates lab values prior to performing any interventional procedure.
Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times.
Performs such exams as abdominal, renal, aorta, thyroid, pelvic, obstetrical, bio-physical profiles, vascular studies, testicular and breasts, color flow studies, Doppler studies, renal biopsies, and fluid collections of localized areas. Takes representative anatomical pictures, recognizes normal versus abnormal anatomy, and exhibits knowledge of various pathological processes.
Has thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to sufficiently pinpoint area of imaging.
Quality of Care
The technologist provides evidence-based care to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.
Comply with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.
Patient Satisfaction

Job Description
Responsible for performing Diagnostic Ultrasound examinations in accordance with established policies and procedures under general supervision. Rotating call for weekends and holidays. This is a safety sensitive position.
Position Accountabilities:
Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures of specified body areas by properly positioning patients and locating/scanning areas for interpretation as directed by the physician or radiologist.
Required knowledge of abdominal, ob-gyn, breast, vascular, and small part ultrasounds.
Explains procedures to patients and/or family members ensuring cooperation and optimum test results and to reduce anxiety.
Demonstrates knowledge of picture archiving and communication systems (PACS).
Schedules patients as needed and ensures patients receive adequate service.
Maintains ultrasound equipment by performing scheduled cleanings/tests and documents results. Contacts supervisor of malfunctioning equipment to get instructions about contacting service personnel.
Performs other related duties as directed in order to support the achievement of established goals and objectives.

Problem Solving/Challenges:
Individual is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations. Equipment malfunctions present problems in achieving this responsibility. Incumbent must utilize various positioning techniques in order to capture specific areas on film. Failure to properly scan patients results in repeated scan and ultimately inconveniencing physicians and patients.
Decision Making:
Incumbent acts in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Discretion must be used in several areas such as patient care and scheduling. The technologist should be able to have good management skills and be able to make clear decisions in regard to patient care. Scan interpretations are governed by the Director. Director is contacted regarding equipment malfunctions, supply requests, and any unusual situations that depart from standard policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Satisfactory completion of a formal Ultrasound training program or equivalent training
Registered or Registry Eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Must be ARDMS, ARRT (S), CCI registered within one (1) year of hire date and prefer registry in Vascular Technology within two (2) years.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Breast Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with established protocols to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role requires a high level of technical skill, professionalism, and patient care within a fast-paced outpatient healthcare clinic environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations including but not limited to breast ultrasound.
Operate ultrasound equipment and adjust controls to obtain optimum imaging as directed by the provider's order.
Review patient history and physician's instructions to ensure appropriate diagnostic information is obtained.
Position patients and select appropriate imaging techniques to ensure high-quality diagnostic images.
Accurately document and label ultrasound images and submit for physician interpretation.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Ensure exam rooms and equipment are clean, stocked, and properly maintained.
Communicate effectively with providers and clinical staff regarding exam findings when appropriate.
Assist in the development and maintenance of imaging protocols and quality assurance processes.
Adhere to all safety, infection control, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) certification required (e.g., RDMS, RVT).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Minimum of one (1) year of clinical breast ultrasound experience.
Proficient in performing a variety of ultrasound exams.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Detail-oriented and capable of working independently.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work effectively within role: independently and with team members.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
