Denver-based startup OrthoFi is changing the orthodontic industry by introducing software solutions which give doctors the capability to start more patients. The solutions also make front-office processes less time-consuming. The solutions allows patients to be put in control of their payment plans while making the treatments affordable. The company's software and service solution helps consumers find their perfect match when it comes to finding an orthodontist. By providing each orthodontist's skills and experiences, customers are sure to find the perfect one.
OrthoFi's goal is to solve both old and new problems facing the industry. Nowadays, general dentists are able to get certified to provide basic aligner treatment, which has upped the competition for orthodontists. Where previously they only worried about competition between other orthodontists, now their worries have expanded. In addition, new remote orthodontic treatment services have popped up that ship at-home kits and aligner trays directly to the patient's house. But don't worry, OrthoFi is here to save the day.
Using a multitude of data points, OrthoFi provides patients flexible financing options that give them access to a payment structure that fits their budget best. With these payment structures in place, no patient is turned away. By offering OrthoFi, orthodontists are able to provide the best treatment care options for each patient. And they can do so without taking a financial hit to their business. The company then uses technology to streamline both patient and insurance collections practices so they're able to sustain growth.
"This is a very exciting time for OrthoFi, with over 50-percent growth each of the last four years, our team doubling in size over the last 18 months and us helping over 110,000 patients find quality orthodontic care in 2018," said CEO Dave Ternan. "We are looking for talented people who want to join a collaborative team that is poised to accomplish incredible things and make a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients."
The people at OrthoFi are constantly questioning the status quo of the orthodontist industry to not limit themselves. Many of the practices within the industry are functioning today because they were passed down from senior team members to junior team members. That's why everyone at OrthoFi is encouraged and expected to come forth with new ideas that they believe will better a process or technology.
Diving Into the Values at OrthoFi
At OrthoFi, employees are able to make an impact from Day 1. They believe in the notion that the best idea wins. In order to make sure no idea is left behind, all voices are heard at OrthoFi. Everyone is challenged to push themselves to reach their full potential during their career with OrthoFi. The core values that drive the company culture at OrthoFi include:
The company's values explain how they strive to succeed as a team. The values serve as guidelines for employees to determine which behaviors are rewarded and which ones receive coaching. The values represent how the company strives to succeed in reaching their vision and mission. The values were selected based on the company's culture and what the team members who work there strive to achieve every day. That's why the values are an important part of the hiring process. They look for people who exemplify and believe in these behaviors. The values are also considered during performance management processes.
The leadership team at OrthoFi keeps the values front and center at all times, which is why every team member can reward points to fellow team members for exemplifying specific values. During the monthly all-hands meeting, the "Core Value Conquistador" is chosen. This person exemplifies the selected core value of the previous month.
The People at OrthoFi
A Supportive Team
The people at OrthoFi are very supportive of one another. They truly make up a team. "My favorite perk of working at OrthoFi is the connection and support we have with each other as a team," said Director of Culture Mike O'Muireadhaigh. "I love coming to work in a place where differing opinions are valued."
The team at OrthoFi is committed to helping each other grow and develop through their careers. And the leadership at OrthoFi is always there to coach the team members to help them continue learning. The Culture at OrthoFi
Built on Trust and Respect
The trust and respect that is found at this office is built through the strong internal relationships and making sure everyone aligns with the company goals. While many companies try their best to focus on culture, it's not just something OrthoFi focuses on but something they feel. They believe their team members are the foundation of the entire company. Through a positive intent amongst the team, the culture at OrthoFi has become an established practice. The people at OrthoFi believe that there is nothing more satisfying than accomplishing a team victory together through means of hard work and dedication.
"We believe that the base of every great culture is trust and mutual respect," said VP of Technology Steve O'Quin. "OrthoFi places additional focus on this by investing the time to establish true relationships with our teammates and ensuring that everyone shares the same goals. Through this shared consciousness, we can enable our teams to truly own their results and also collaborate openly to ensure the best idea wins. We feel that this ultimately allows our team to deliver effectively while also creating a culture that enables us to get better every day."
The Benefits at OrthoFi
Teammates That Brew Together, Stay Together
The perks that employees enjoy at OrthoFi are some of the coolest around. I mean even the company's office building has a cool history. It used to be a manufacturing facility for Ford Model T cars. But if that's not cool enough for you, employees enjoy unlimited PTO for when they need a break from work. But when they do come into the office, they enjoy catered breakfasts, meditation sessions and wellness initiatives. Additionally, the company provides comprehensive health benefits and an on-site gym to ensure you're able to stay healthy.
The company also provides several opportunities for you to get to know your coworkers outside of work. The outings are fun and nonsensical so team members are able to have fun and see their teammates in a different light. They believe in taking work too seriously, while not taking themselves too seriously.
One example of this is a game they invented at OrthoFi. It's called SumoFi. The game involves two bubble soccer balls that fully enclose a person while leaving their legs free. A huge circle is drawn on the floor to represent what is out of bounds. Two contestants will face off starting in the circle. The object is to try and knock each other out of the circle. The best two out of three times wins.
The team outings don't just help teammates get to know each other more. Sometimes the outings are used as a way to connect people who struggle to connect with each other. A couple of years ago, the company was facing this specific problem within one of the departments. So what did the company do to fix this? They held a funny scavenger hunt. And those people finally connected during the activity. In fact, they're still good friends to this day.
If one thing is for sure, it's that OrthoFi really develops a strong team that works hard together. Even if that means brewing beer together. A few years back, the company realized many of its employees were individually brewing their own beers. Now, they brew as a team. Using Odell IPA, Bell's Two-Hearted Ale, and Gumball Head from Three Floyds as inspiration, the OrthoFi team has put together two delicious beers:
From improving the Orthodontia industry to brewing beer, there's nothing this company can't do. And the best part is they do it together, as a team.
