Dr. Josh Sandell is a sports medicine specialist and the Chief Clinical Officer at Orthology. He holds B.S degrees in Exercise Physiology and Human Biology. He is a licensed Chiropractic Physician and has earned two post-graduate professional certifications in Sports Medicine. Dr. Sandell is also an Athletic Trainer and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He understands the inherent limitations to a reductionistic approach to orthopedic injuries and appreciates that the neuromusculoskeletal system is a set of interacting interdependent subsystems which form an integrative whole. He has pioneered a patent-pending, systems-based approach which systematically addresses the interrelated complexes that together can produce results not obtainable by addressing a single subsystem or component alone. The methodology was developed from complex adaptive systems modeling and is useful in understanding the functional, biochemical and structural mechanisms that affect dynamic stability of the NMS system. The Functional Integration component of the methodology addresses remodeling and modulation of the structural tissue injury complex, increasing/decreasing active/passive stiffness, restoring arthrokinematic dysfunction, altering spinal motor unit recruitment, synchronization, timing, firing frequency, synergistic contribution, preactivation, reflex activity, force-coupling relationships, and cortical reorganization. Given his unmatched outcomes in the industry, Dr. Sandell’s methodology has since been acquired by United Health Group, the largest health system in the world. Dr. Sandell has had the privilege to work at the Olympic Training Center and was selected as the official team USA physician for the 2010 Winter Olympic games in Vancouver Canada. His list of patients includes well over a 2000 professional athletes from the NFL, CFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA, MMA, WBA, PGA, MLS and Olympic athletes from around the country and the world.
